are you talking about the long "pockets" on the lower leg?
in that case i just think those are kind of equipment pockets.

Those are knee and leg protectors, i think.Nothing more to it .Unless you mean those baggies that above the protectors ...

That reminds me... does anyone know where I can pick up some Chemlight batteries? I could also use a box of grid squares and a roll of flight line.

What kind of holster would be along the lower leg? Kinda out of the way to be effective.

Nice pics!

About those pouches/holsters on their legs, I don't think they are leg bags for rope. Too small. I own a climbing rope for rock climbing and such small a pouch wouldn't hold more than a few meters of rope...

Besides, in the picture with the two operators rappelling in front of a window, you can clearly see both the leg pouches and the larger rope bag slung at the waist, with the rope coming out of it.

Just my .02$

regarding the leg bag..

From Blackhawk Industries:

The BlackHawk TRRB is designed to hold up to 200 feet of rope
on your leg, waist or over the shoulder. It has an outside pocket to carry
carabiners, hardware or other necessities. Quick disconnect leg straps
allows for fast removal when necessary. The compartment closes by
cinch top

Below are a couple more high-res pictures for you. These were obtained for publishing the book "Canada's Secret Commandos". The first is one you've seen already, but in higher resolution and no blurred face (should I be posting this?)

Thanks for the contribution.
Where did you find these? And do you have any more high res versions?

They came from DND for David Pugliese's book. I have other images (high-res and not) but I'm not going to post them until I ok it with DND -- they show faces more clearly.

Anyone read the book 'Canadas secret commandos'?

I read it last summer. Half the book is about RCMP SERT, the Calgary bank robbery and the transition of responibility from SERT to JTF2.
There is a section on foreign SOF that is actually bigger than the one on JTF2 itself and a long list of active terrorist organizations. The rest covers JTF2 equipment and training, as well as (few) operations, with no details and lots of hypothetical assertions.

All in all, a decent book on SOF and counter-terrorism in Canada, but if you're after information on JTF-2 (as I was), it's somewhat disappointing. There's a few pictures, but they're b&w and grainy.

Pugliese's second book, Shadow Wars, is about the role of SOF in the war against terrorism. It gives a pretty good account of JTF-2's role and mission, codenamed Task Force Canada. Again, not a lot of details, but it is decent.
You can't blame the author, info on JTF-2 is hard to come by.

@ Zeus: you wouldn't happen to have color hi-res versions of the pics of JTF-2 in Afghanistan in Shadow Wars (the censored ones, of course, faces blurred and all)? If DND allows it, it would be nice to see them.

Cheers

I'll ask David if he can ok it with his publisher. If so, I'll throw them up here.

Unfortunately, I haven't had luck in getting permission for those images you requested yet. For the mean time, I've submitted a bunch of JTF2 images to militaryphotos.net for their site. They're images which you've seen, but they're the originals which are not cropped or shrunken down like those you've seen before. They are the originals from which the images on the JTF2 website were taken.
