As far as I know only about 60 million Americans are of German descent. This is however still the largest group among the "whites", the second largest group being those of English descent, which number about 25 million (Scots go extra however).

As far as the Hispanics are concerened, they are to a large part of Spanish descent, however, the most significant contribution came form the original Indian people living in this area. Even the name "Mexicans"...that is the word the Aztecs used for themselves (the word "Aztec" was, if I am not mistaken, coined by Alexander von Humboldt.) The original Aztec empire (of which the Aztecs were just one, albiet the dominant people) had more than 30 million inhabitants, by no means all were killed by the Spanish or died through imported diseases.
So it would be highly unfair to send them all back to Spain.
Its not unsimiliar with South America...its nearly 1 billion inhabitants hardly come all from Spain or Portugal, while the rest of Europe plus some parts of Africa (involuntary) managed only to fill North America with about 300 billion. Spain and Portuguese may love ***, but that is even beyond their capabilites. ;)

I've not the exact number but only 15-20 percent of the Mexican population has an European origin. So, the word "latino" can hide many very different realities.
