No no, I ain't hating anything, it's just that I find it hard to belive that if the human figures in front are actuall size, and that flag is high up on a flag pole, the flag would have to be enormous, and the wind wouldn't be able to make the flag fly like that.

Of course if it's actually real, then I'm sorry :)

You ever take a picture?? There ways you can get certain effects, in that pic it just all depends on the angle you take it on.

Its a professional picture... and if you dont believe that its not real just look it up.

A question:

In the US you probably wouldn't see this done by someone being patriotic. Typically we view the flag as something that shouldn't be used for tying down a load to a truck...just like it shouldn't ever touch the ground, etc etc. What are the British rules for how one should treat the flag?

N

Roger Rabbit
12-19-2003, 02:00 PM
I may be wrong but i think this flag has been tied on to the top of an armoured vehicle. The object of that being to make sure that any aircraft flying overhead would identify the vehicle as British and so would not attack it(unless said aircraft is Iraqi rofl ). Anyway wait till one of the British members who have military service come online because they should be able to clear things up.

It's a good way of showing the a-10 pilots that we're friendlies. A flag is a flag there's no need to get anal about it, putting your flag on show is patriotic. And in this case the picture was put on the ministry of defence website.

Nochmal
12-20-2003, 04:32 AM
Wasn't meaning to sound anal about it...just curious what flag rules people have in other countries...I'm still not entirely convinced that this is a signal flag...it really looks like it's holding stuff down. Then again, I wasn't there and I have read (in books like CQB) about Brits having IFF issues with A10s. :)

On a similar thread...I know when I lived in Germany it was interesting to find out that most Germans (at least the ones I met) didn't have a clue as to their national anthem's words while most Americans consider it at least slightly important to know their anthem.

As far as I'm aware we Brits have no comparisons with the National Flag,in its use compared to the Stars and Stripes!

We have used the Union Jack as an Identification Panel on numerous occasions, but alas it does seem that some A10 pilots are not familiar with out National Flag,as vehicles that have been flying/displaying it have been targeted on several occasions resulting in the loss of life......an unfortunate accident or diabolical ID procedures, these are still sore points to serving members of the UKLF

Guttorm

About the FF episodes, wher aircrafts attacked ground targets... Was it just US pilots who did that? No UK pilots were involved in FF episodes?

The ink flag

http://www.dafni.com/edreserve/umrashrash.gif

The Ink Flag at Eilat
On March 10, 1949, two Israeli brigades —Negev and Golani— converged on the police station of Umm Rash Rash on the Red Sea, now known as the resort city of Eilat, and occupied it without firing a shot. This act completed the occupation of the Negev Desert, allocated to their government by the United Nations partition plan and was the last operation of Israel's War of Independence. However none of the soldiers had remembered to bring a flag with them, so a soldier by the name of Micha Peri hand drew one by pouring blue ink on a sheet. The result was apparently a kosher Israeli national flag with one exception — Peri appears to have smeared the Shield of David device, and filled it in entirely. This design was never used again.

I think because of the Crosses on the flags. Its the same with England jerseys and the st georges cross. Im not sure what the Nordic crosses are on their flags but if one of our fellow Scandinavian pals could tell me it would be very much appreciated.

Somehow I always find military parades to be quite patriotic.

Nooooooo it´s not nazi. The finnish air force has been using the svastika
as a symbol of luck since 1918. The nazis didn´t even exist then.

The crosses on the Nordic flags? Well it´s simple. It is the christian cross. The first one, and the oldest flag in the world today is the danish Dannebrogen, (red with white cross), it is said to have "come down from the sky" to king Valdemar Sejr during a battle during the crusade to the pagan Estonia in 1219 :)

Wait, why is it facist or racist to wear those flags?

The problem is that neo-nazis in Norway, Sweden and Denmark has made our national flag their symbol.
Specially in Sweden the bastards have succeeded, and now whenever you see someone wear a Swedish flag, you automaticly see him as a neo-nazi.

I don't know how to solve this problem, but one thing that could be done is for the normal Swedish to take is flag back. Start to use it. Even on Flaggans Dag, you can hardly see any Swedish flags. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
