What do you think about these weapons:
.40 Caliber HK USP (possibly compact but i don't think so)
.357 Sig Sauer P226
Tell me which one is better and what kind of experience you've had with either pistol. These are the two I've narrowed my list down to as to which one I want to purchase.
Thanks for the help fellas!

Both handguns are excellent, but I would prefer a J.P. Sauer & Sohn, i. e. a German manufactured SIG Sauer.

I would get the SIG. On the SIGARMS website they offer the P226 in .40 w/an optional barrel available for .357 Sig. If you can swing it financially, that might be the best of both worlds.

hmmm, I run w/ a HK .40 and a heavy load out. Had it for a bout 6 yrs, No worries, GTG , controls are positive and true, But Truthfully: It is just a *ucking SEXY instrument of persuasion (SP).
Seriously, Get what fits YOUR hand !!! what YOU are comfortable handling,, test shoot both if you can,, both are excellant quality , proven waepons, Since YOU have to flip the AMEX, clams or dads money, ,, you must have it fit your hand so that you feel 100% oakiedoakie handling the controls, muzzle etc.
Why? no two hands(individuals) are the same size ie: fingers, palm, dexiteity(sp-&uckit) so ,,,
hope this helps,,
have a nice day?

.40 ammo is cheaper. Something to think about, esp. since your in college...

Since both of those are pricey weapons, it seems money is no object.
I've fired both, and I like both, though I bought a USP for various reasons that may not apply to you like the external safety, and its heavy, solid feel.
The P226 may be your best choice since the .40S&W is offered with the spare barrel for .357SIG so you can fire both calibers. .357 is more expensive than .40 but if price really isn't important that argument is moot. You can't go wrong with either of those pistols in my opinion.

Why the HK in 40 and the SIG in 357? Doesn't the HK come in 357 as well? As others have posted, you can get the SIG with both the 40 and 357 barrel (which is exactly what I have). I LOVE my 226, and prefer it to the USP full size. You're kind of comparing apples and oranges though, the USP being polymer framed and the 226 alloy or stainless.
Try to find a place where you can shoot both and see what fits your hand best and if you control the recoil better with one or the other.
Then buy the SIG wth both barrels. (grin)

Just out of curiosity, those of you with Sigs, how much did you pay? I ask this because that was one of the things I looked at when I was looking. For comparison, I paid $385 for my Glock 23, new in the case w/2 mags.

Only in the compact variant as far as I know. Apparently there have been feding problems with the full size model. That's what I've read at least. Not sure what the difference is between the full size and compact that causes the problem though.
