Delta? I need a few more opinions. It could be AF special ops. It's not a SEAL, it said specifically, "Special Operator". And since "operator" is or atleast used to be Delta's version of "agent" or "operative", it very well could be an operator. If anyone had no idea what I just said, don't worry, I've had 25 too many Christmas santa chocalates. :(

my guess is AFSOC.

Why do you say that? Just out of curiosity.

Why do you say its Delta?

Really though, it could be any one of the SOF

Special Forces members are referred to as "operators" as well. Nothing amazing about it.

But I find it funny if you hold the mouse over the image, it will say SOAR MH60 blah blah blah...that's an AFSO Pave Hawk not SOAR.

Just Delta uses the term Operators? I have seen it used for ANY special operations soldier in a number of books, papers, and websites.

And that pic is on a number of other websites, as well. I got it off of one of them about two months ago.

It's actually an Air Force PJ during an exercise. Old pic., I saw that on the AF website a few years ago.

I just finished Eric Haney's book: "Inside Delta Force" for the third time yesterday, and it says that they were going to use the name "agent" but that was the official name that the CIA used, so they just decided to use "operator" instead. But at the time, no other military unit was using that name.

Looks a helluva lot like North Carolina. My cousins went there last fall and brought back pics from when they went hiking.

There are plenty of places that look like that in the U.S. alone.

States I've been to:

Kansas
Oklahoma
Texas
Alabama
Louisiana
Georgia
Misouri
North Dakota
South Dakota
Nebraska
Michigan
Minnesota
Iowa
Ohio
Indiana
Arkansas
Wyoming
New Mexico
Montana
Idaho
Washington
Oregon
Utah
Florida

Washington was pretty much the same as that, so was parts of Idaho. Colorado is more of a rocky/mountainous terrain. There are a few forests here in Kansas that look like that photo. Wyoming is pretty much more of a desert aea, except up north, mostly snow up there. Montana, a little bit of everything up there. Idaho, not much I can say about Idaho. I was only going through the northern most tip of it to get to Washington. I've never been further east than Arkansas, well, atleast not the northeast region of the US.

Are you a migrant worker or on a milk carton?

Zach R.

Most of those states we were just traveling through to get to another state. Like the time I went to Washington, we had to go through Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.

That's a lot of damned states pal. I've been all up and down the east coast and flew into Cali and Missouri but that was only to do a job at Ft. Leonard Wood.

in regards to location it looks to me alot like the Pacific NW of the US.

Again, i still think its AFSOC...

THe MH-60G, the guys weapon and headware...

But Delta does use pretty much the same, so its hard to tell.

Look its another delta

This guy has to be delta.

and there is that good ol operator again.

I think the hunt for Delta pics should just be given up on already.
There is like 2-3 threads a month looking for, or claiming to have delta pics.

if you had a close-up of the weapon, it could possibly eliminate PJs because most PJs use the old CAR15 instead of the M4 series. At least...I think that's the case.

Combat Controller ? Or is that just another name for AFSOC ??

Every fool could conclude it's not Delta... Why? Because Delta doesn't do photo-ops and official DoD pictures... Anyway, I believe I once saw this picture classed as AFSOC once, but that might be wrong.

They use M4s.

Here's the link to the pic on the AF website. If I remember correctly, it's from a joint CSAR exercise. I could have sworn the guy was a SEAL, but he could be special tactics (PJ or CCT).

The term operator is a buzzword and everytime I hear some kid say "operator" i cringe.

Combat Controller ? Or is that just another name for AFSOC ??

A bit of a Combat Control mission overview:

"The mission of Combat Controllers are similar regardless of the command they are assigned. They employ by air-land-sea tactics into forward, non-permissive environments to establish assault zones with an Air Traffic Control (ATC) capability. The assault zone is either a drop zone (for parachute operations), a landing zone (for fixed wing or helicopter operations), or an extraction zone (for low altitude re-supply). CCT also establishes recovery zones (for surface to air recovery of personnel or equipment), and ground based fire control for AC-130 gunship operations. In addition, CCT provides vital command and control, surveying capabilities, limited weather observations and are qualified in demolition's to clear obstructions and hazards."

Great site for anybody interested in USAF Special Tactics "Operators"

Maybe officially no one elsed used the term 'operator', but Spec Ops have been calling themselves operators for a while. SEALs say that a lot.

So, do many people assume it is easy to become because its the Air Force, and not the Marines, Army Special Forces, or Seals??

Yeah, I don't think getting into any Special Operations is easy. But the real high-speed guys in SF and whatnot tend to poke fun at the Air Force guys.

But as one with no active-duty military experience yet, I have to believe any Special Operations is tough shi*. Got nothing but RESPECT for all of 'em.

:bash: Oh no, here we go again. Let’s stop this before it even gets started. OK folks, be warned I'm about to get on my soap box again.

Once again it's not, I SAY AGAIN, not "easy" to get into any SOF unit. Be it Ranger, SF, SEAL, Force Recon, Special Tactics, etc... or many of the units they routinely work with.

Even if guys in those units poke fun at each other, they have EARNED the right to do so. The people on this board who are out there doing what a lot of you guys wish could or hope to be doing every day get VERY offended when guys start spouting off at the mouth passing along their "knowledge".

Most of them don't mind you making an educated comment or asking a legitimate question, but don't just start throwing out something you heard from a friend, saw in a movie, or read in book.

Lastly, when someone that is in the know tries to give you a little advice, take a minute, sit back and let it settle in. While some of our regular posters make be a little rough around the edges (Trigger Puller springs to mind) they are trying to provide you with some good info and point you in the right direction.

I will now step down of my soap box.
