A costumed figure stands in a doorway at Hampton Court Palace in southwest London in this image caught on closed circuit television and released by the Palace Friday, Dec. 19, 2003. On several occasions in October 2003, guards at the palace were alerted to an open fire door in the 16th century palace. Upon reviewing the CCTV footage, the curious image of a costumed figure suddenly appeared on the screen and closed the doors. The Palace is well known for its alleged supernatural activity. By JACK GARLAND, Associated Press Writer
LONDON - Are there ghostly goings-on at Henry VIII's palace, or is that hazy image of a fellow in fancy robes just a bit of Christmas cheer?
Closed-circuit security cameras at Hampton Court Palace, the huge Tudor castle outside London, seem to have snagged an ethereal visitor. Could it be a ghost?
"We're baffled too — it's not a joke, we haven't manufactured it," said Vikki Wood, a Hampton Court spokeswoman, when asked if the photo the palace released was a Christmas hoax. "We genuinely don't know who it is or what it is."
Wood said security guards had seen the figure in closed-circuit television footage after checking it to see who kept leaving open one of the palace's fire doors.
In the still photograph, the figure of a man in a robe-like garment is shown stepping from the shadowy doorway, one arm reaching out for the door handle.
The area around the man is somewhat blurred, and his face appears unnaturally white compared with his outstretched hand.
"It was incredibly spooky because the face just didn't look human," said James Faukes, one of the palace security guards.
"My first reaction was that someone was having a laugh, so I asked my colleagues to take a look. We spoke to our costumed guides, but they don't own a costume like that worn by the figure. It is actually quite unnerving," Faukes said.
The palace, built in 1525 on the River Thames 10 miles west of central London, is a popular tourist attraction and some of the guides wear costumes of the Tudor period.
Wood said she was hoping people would come forward with similar stories and try to explain the figure.
The palace has been the scene of many dramatic royal events, and already is supposed to have a few ghosts.
King Henry VIII's third wife, Jane Seymour, died there giving birth to a son, and her ghost is said to walk through one of the cobbled courtyards carrying a candle.
Her son, Edward, had a nurse called Sibell Penn who was buried in the palace grounds in 1562. In 1829 her tomb was disturbed by building work, and around the same time an odd whirring noise began to be heard in the southwest wing of the palace. When workmen traced the strange sounds to a brick wall, they uncovered a small forgotten room containing an old spinning wheel, just like the one Penn used to use.
Henry's fifth wife, Catherine Howard, condemned for adultery, was held at the palace under house arrest before her execution at the Tower of London. An 1897 book about the palace says she was reportedly seen, dressed in white and floating down one of the galleries uttering unearthly shrieks.
The palace was once a prison for King Charles I, who later was beheaded, and then home to his nemesis Oliver Cromwell, who briefly ruled when Britain was for a short time a republic.

The thing that scares me with ghosts is that they arnt "physical" so you can't hit them, and beat the **** out of them like you can do with a mugger, or some person on the street.
So it's that whole defencless thing that scares me... :|

I had an "encounter" I think I was between grade 4 and 6...was going to the washroom, you have to walk to the end of a dark hall before theres a lightswitch, right before I hit the switch I see this green glowy thing right in front of me, hand hits the switch and it seem like it went through me and into the kitchen doorway which was to my right.
Doesnt help when the grave yard is only across two roads....

yeah man, my grandma died in my old house, and her rocking chair used to rock all the time, when all the doors were closed... and you used to ALWAYS get this feeling someone was watching you, even though no body was in the house.

Nah, Ghosts scare the total **** out of me. My grandma did'nt because well, i know her...
But me and my mates were running through a grave yard because the cops were after us, and my mate stepped on a few grave's and before he got out of the graveyard, he like flew forward, and broke both his legs.. real bad. So we both got taken away by coppers..
I didnt step on any graves, so that whole experience scares me to death.

Ya I like the idea that you can stick around after death, because this bastard would enjoy an eternity of screwing with peoples minds.
Heres something for you kiddies to try if you got some free time.
Get a tape recorder jack up the sensitivity, on a full moon go to the graveyard (the older the better). The best time this works is around 12-2am, turn it on and walk quietly around the graveyard keeping the tape recorder as low to the ground as possible. After about a good 2 hours head on home rewind the tape n have a listen ;) I hope you have balls because you'll never look at a graveyard the same again.

I have always been blamed to have a really good imagination, well thats not good all the times  ..
Well anyways i had the most ****ed up dream yesterday:
I was in some military unit doing some recon ****, and a huge clown appeared, and everyone opened fire at it, ofcource no-one could hit it..
Then it massacred anyone and I woke up when it attacked me. **** I was so scared I was afraid to go back to sleep :( .
Ok this might seem somewhat ****ed up, but I was reading Stephen King's "It" that night, and I am naturally afraid of clows, so I guess that explains it
Well anyways I answered yes :|

P.s. I forgot an important part though, if you feel like your unwanted in the graveyard, its probably cause you arnt so run. It may sound silly but go with your gut on things like that, besides I dont blame you for running anyways.

I was going to post that photo and news piece as well, but someone beat me to it!
Only ever had one "ghostly" experience. In my forces days, I was on patrol one freezing, pitch black winter night with my section on an airbase we were at on exercise. The airbase had been an old Lancaster bomber base during the war. My patrol and I were out on the far perimeter track near the main runway. Suddenly we heard very loud multi-engined propeller engines quite close by, out of nowhere. It scared the hell out of us as we thought an aircraft was coming in. We moved away from the runway but the sound was still loud and crystal clear. I got on the base net and called up our other section not far away, but they couldn't hear the engines. By now we were sh*tting ourselves, so we very quickly got out of the area. Eventually the noise stopped, and we went back into the guardroom for a strong brew! I immediately checked with my boss, no propellor aircraft on the base at all, and nothing overhead in the air either according to the control tower lads. Even now, about 10 years on, I can't explain it and it still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.............

I've never had these "ghost experiences" in my life, mainly because I truly don't believe in them nor do I believe in the existence of "ghosts" as you put it.
But, I'm not ruling out that they wouldn't exist; "none of them have strayed in my path just yet"
In any case, this "take a recorder and go to the graveyard-thing" interests me greatly, maybe I'll try it out when I've got the chance to.
P.s. I forgot an important part though, if you feel like your unwanted in the graveyard, its probably cause you arnt so run
What do you mean "unwanted"? like the ghosts don't like you, huh?
I need to prove this thing wrong or let a ghost scare me to death, either way.

In winter when it's really dark in the forest, small trees look just like humans because they are moving by the wind. It's funny, patrol leader raises his hand and everybody just freezez bacuse of a little tree!

I also don't belive in ghosts, but my dog made me scary joke once :) ....Wen I had only one dog I was ussualy walking only with him past 22:00 on night walks to piss and **** him off.
So once apolet time there was cold winter night with very thick fog, so thick that when I went deep into field I couldn't see city lights or my setlement lights, and only I could see was few metres ahead and bright moon in full. Like ussualy I was walknig contemplative completly not lookin around, then my dog started barking madly into the fog(never done that before),and runing around me, I tried to calm him down but he still was growling, I was trying to see why he is acting like that but seen nothing...then I've got strong goose-flesh on my back when I realised that it is fulll-moon with class B horror fog...wow...tought that it would be good idea to come back home, dog was nervous untill we've got home :).

For those of us too terrified to try this judging by what your saying, can you explain what you will hear on the tape recorder?
I believe if you turn the volume up pretty big you might hear some faint talking, though not necessarily in English. Heard something about it a while back.
ßå$tĮТHÏ¿ð
12-22-2003, 02:46 PM
Ya faint talking is right, sometimes screams, some people even heard something call there name. Either way it scares the **** outta you.
As for my refference to feeling "unwanted" its more of a gut feeling, theres a difference between "unwanted" and "scared ****less". Feeling "unwanted" in a graveyard is not a good thing, your instincts is what you go on when you do something like this so its always good to go with some one else and if they feel the same then its time to leave. If you dont then your probably pissing off the people under the ground and then you refer to being "scared ****less".
