I do too, but it lacks good optical sights and I'm not sure how easy it is to "attach" various sights.

Why Bushmaster? Why not Olympic Arms, Rock River Arms, Les Baer, Wilson Combat, or Armalite?

accuracy international aw
I just bought a CETME Sporter rifle made by Centuryarms. It looks alot like the FN FAL, and fires a .308 cartridge. Its heavy as hell, and is most convenient for right-handers, but it has suprisingly low recoil and alot of power. The best part was that it cost 300 which was good for me.

I'm a fan of the AK. It works. Doesn't get anywhere close to 1 MOA but will fire every time you pull the trigger. Plus it's the only rifle a starving college student like me can afford :)

Im a sucker for H&K's G3SG1, 7.62mm...ah...so beautifull. I really like its no non-sense look.
The G3SG/1 is a sniper enhanced variant of the G3 rifle that was made at the request of the Deutsche Bundeswehr (German Army). It most closely resembles the G3 rifle, and retains almost all of the standard features. The differences are not readily visible to the eye. The barrels are hand picked for accuracy, and the standard buttstock has a slightly adjustable cheekpiece.
The G3SG/1 (SG stands for Scharfschützengewehr or sharp shooting rifle) has one of the most interesting trigger groups ever designed by HK. (See below) This is a trigger that combines the ability to "set" the trigger by pushing the button behind the trigger to the rear when in the semi-auto mode to give the firer the best trigger pull available from an HK rifle in this genre. This trigger when in set mode, is lighter and more crisp than the PSG1 trigger group. Further, and quite surprising, is the addition of full automatic capability on top of everything else. This appears to be a rifle designed to cover all contingencies. This trigger group is even more like a Swiss watch inside than even the ambidextrous burst groups. Quite a few of these rifles were imported by Class Three Supply and others several years ago, both as pre and post 86 dealer samples.
Thats from H&K pro's website.

I guess its about peoples personal favorites more then whats best, because it all comes down to the prefferance of the person using it.

M1 Garand or a Springfield M1903...
The best part is that the Federal Government sells them to its citizens. Civilian Marksmenship Program.

It's kind of strange question.
I think whatever has proven itself on the field is the best. We were offered many different new weapons, but we went with the good old AKM/AK-74.
Besides, in professional hands, any weapon is the best. ;)

Can you guys in South Africa still own semi-automatic rifles? Isn't the R4 a copy of the Galil?

M14 / M1A is my favorite. With iron sights. I'm not a huge fan of all the bells and whistles that are so popular these days.

We can, I got mine because I am part of a farmer protection group as our farmers get killed and attacked often.
