I'm not sure that we still have a unit of cyclist but I think we continue to use them for specific purposes.

Anyway, now some pictures :

We abandoned them this year.

@hihihi_ch: in der Armee XXI gibt es keine Fahrradtruppen mehr.

Kampfhamster : Thank you for the info! I'm still not really up-to-date with all the change... I just know the changes in my unit, and all are not very good.

Why would one use bicycle vs, lets say, motorcycle? What is the reasoning behind?

Schade, ich bin von Nyon, Vaud... und mein deutsch ist sehr sehr klein
No, I'm not in defence-net, what is this?

Are you "playing" ;) with the m-109?

they are cheap, they are silent, faster than by foot. They can travel on small paths.

Ah, I see, another swiss guys from the forum defence-net.de is a Stinger-soldier as well.

No, I don't play with the M109, but I'm in the supply-platoon of a howitzer battery.

I think it was to be silent in moving faster than the infantry. But now it's finish, we don't need them any more.

Now our bikes our just good to do some races rofl

well, there are some changes in the artillery.

Now we have four howitzer batterys instead of three, new FAO-vehicles (MOWAG Eagle), new supply trucks and so on.

I don't know how much changes yet, I see the changes next year.

As a mountain biker, I can say that bicycles are a great way to travel. You can cover 2X to 3X the ground than on foot. Plus its very quiet and stealthy. I have scared many hikers to death because they can't hear me coming even when I'm right behind them. Dirtbikes are faster and obviously effortless, but they are very noisy.

I have dreams of ambushing a column of bicycles.

You know, bicycles are a standard part of our training back here as well. Nevertheless I doubt that we have got specific "bicycle troops" as a part of the defence forces, merely the bicycles are used as cheap and fast transportation while in training...
