What the f*** is costco.
Theres a Costco on I-10 and Bunkerhill. Its like a Sam's Wholesale but with different specials everday. Somedays you can get leather jackets on the cheap other days, Fine China etc. depends on what bulk deals Costco can get from the manufacturer that week.

American mega conglomerate. Costco hurts all the little guys. The small business is soon to be extinct...
I enjoy one on one customer service/appreciation, not an endless megalith of isles and boxes towering high above impersonal check outs stretching a half mile.

Is this thread not about Costco?

Yes, this thread is about Costco, not about your problems with American megaconglomerates. Take it somewhere else.

The thread asks, do you love or hate Costco? I have identified my reasoning. If you have an issue with me disliking this particular business, you can mail a complaint to the CEO and ask the individual to void my membership and ban me from the store in question.

Your reason is that you prefer the small guys to large corporations. That's cool. But guess what buddy, not every mega corporation that exists is American. That's why it's a hijack, you're clearly turning a thread about a certain store into one about why American businesses suck.

True, yet Costco is American , as are others which have virtually eradicated local private ownership and small business from the sales front. America seemingly leads this mega business scene and the empire of Costco is only but a small example of this.
I prefer service over the 'rush rush/ buy buy' mentality. The Western World has become too fixated on the gluttonous consumer attitude and quench for MORE! The Costco Empire is here to make money, not satisfy the customer. Frankly, they do not now what is best for me, and I don’t need some arrogant salesmen trying to 'up sell' me.

Not at all. Travel out in to the country (which makes up the majority of America) and it's completely dominated by small, privately-owned businesses. Even here in Fort Collins (a town/city of maybe ~150,000) there's a good deal of private businesses.
And I don't even really see what's so bad about these "empires." They give you a wider selection and greater array of things than you'll ever get from a private business, and the service isn't really that bad. Most of the places I go to, people are quite friendly and will help you with whatever you need to find.

That is good to hear. Yet it cannot be denied that the rise of the WAL MART empires and such have directly put small business in jeopardy.

Well, think of it this way. If megamarts like Walmart and Target are so successful, they must be doing something right. Small businesses aren't really practical for people living in cities and have a very fast-paced lifestyle. Supermarkets and Walmarts give them the ability to stop in one place and get many (if not most) of the things they need in one stop.
I'm not saying whether a fast-paced lifestyle is right or wrong, I'm just stating the facts. As time goes on, things become faster and faster and therefore need other things to become faster in order to keep everything going. It's kind of like Darwinism: survival of the fittest. Private businesses are not fit for many people's lifestyle nowadays, and thus the megamarts have begun to take over.

You are so right; it is a fast paced and demanding lifestyle we live in. Has our blessed technology really helped us, or just intensified our stress and made our life that much more complicated?

I wouldn't say that the increased pace has necessarily worsened or improved lifestyle, that's up for each person to decide for themselves. Rather, it's just a change like happens throughout history.

Costco pisses me off, all those people trying to make you eat their free samples, their snackbar gave me food poisioning, there always trying to run me down with that forklift cart and the lineups lead to fist fights.

Of course they do. I'm as guilty of shopping at the huge stores as anyone else, but I try to frequent small businesses as well. It's a fact that the small businesses can't compete with the Wal-Marts and other stores like them. It's sad to see so many of the small businesses go under, because they can't compete.
