Reina is just an amazing place.How gorgeous people are...Music is wonderful. There are around 7 restaurants. All with different style. I've been so many hot citites around the world but REINA,ISTANBUL is the hottest.Dancing till morning between 2 continents and A glamorous Bosphorus brigde is just breathtaking.

Always glad to see that there are clubs and places that have a true door-policy on whoever wants to enter: rich or normal: you have to be fit, you have to dress and you have to behave (all weird for the Dutch). I have not seen a better atmosphere than here next to the Bosphorus, keep it that way!! See you soon Reina, see you soon Istanbul!!

Well, Reina is so far the best bar we ever visited. While visiting Istanbul for a sales meeting we enjoyed the very good food in one of the surrounding restaurants, after which we enjoyed a long evening in the bar. It was so great that we decided to take the entire group (another 14 people) for a diner and of course another great time in the bar. It was the best evening we enjoyed in beautiful Istanbul. Great food, great music, great dancing, great views, great atmosphere. Reina, the bar that is second to none!

I had a chance to go to Turkey as part of a NATO exercise in 1985 - we got a couple days of free time in Istanbul, it's a beautiful (and friendly) city.

We probably did mostly tourist stuff - the Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Bosphorus, etc, but were also able to hit a couple clubs. Also did the Turkish Bath - quite an experience.

I'm not very familiar with Istanbul, but I know enough to say you should definetely stop by "Reina" There are pictures of the place in the first couple places.I'm sure Clearday can be a better help :)

How easy is it for people to visit Turkey? I mean, do a lot of people speak at least some English? I don't know a single word of Turkish but Turkey is always somewhere I've wanted to visit.

You shouldn't have any problems with the language. In Istanbul, Ankara and such large cities you'll find a lot of folks speaking at least English.But if you go to Agean or down to Med. sea cost you will find quite a lot of people speaking whatever your native language is(in bars, restaurants,shops,touring agencies) Since Turks are spreaded all over the Europe, many comes back home for summer or permanent jobs.

Stars of Ballet Gather in Aspendos

The 12th Annual Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival starts today. Turkey's State Opera Ballet Head Office has organized the festival that will gather famous ballet companies from around the world, the festival continues until July 19.

The Aspendos Theatre in Antalya will host the festival that a total of 12 performances will be held. Three international guest ballet companies will also appear on stage. The festival's opening ceremony will be held with a performance by the Rome Opera Ballet, which has come to Turkey for the first time, accompanied by the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra. The group's repertoire is composed of rich classical ballet performances as well as modern choreographed compositions. Other international guests attending the festival are Justus Frantz, a famous German orchestra conductor, and the Nations Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian Mariinsky Theatre with its famous conductor Valery Gergiev, the Kirov Orchestra and its soloists. Russian companies will conduct the closing performance of the festival. Art lovers will be able to watch the classics including "The Flying Dutchman", "Romeo and Juliet" and "Carmen".

Turkey Hosted 2.3 Million Tourists in May

Positive signals are getting stronger that the Turkish tourism sector is performing as well as the exporting sector.

The number of tourists reached 6.1 million, an increase of 27.6 percent in the first five months. According to the State Institute of Statistics (DIE), the figure reached 2.3 million, a 27.8 percent jump in the month of May. Germany takes the lead with 22.5 percent among the countries that send the most tourists to Turkey. Russia follows Germany with 12 percent, then Britain with 9.7 percent, The Netherlands with 9.4 percent, and Bulgaria with 7.2 percent. According to the Pre-Accession Economic Program, Turkey aims this year to earn $18 billion in tourism income, but the DIE data indicates the tourism income in the first quarter of the year has increased 16.4 percent to $1,994 billion. According to analysts, the end of the year target could be surpassed.

In Turkey, the tourism income significantly contributes to finances for easing the current transaction deficit. The increase in income will follow an upward trend in the summer and it is predicted to take the current balance to a plus. While the government predicts a 4.4 percent current deficit of national gross product with $15.4 billion this year, market estimates point out that this level will be exceeded.

Nudism and naturism which doesn’t belong to any religion or race, accepted as an international culture, has many caught much interest here in Turkey. It is very natural that we see many topless Turks at Turkish beaches. But nudism and naturism is still under the seek of an organization. Many people who believe in naturism seek for place where they can live this culture freely.

We organizate nudist activities out of the resort or hotel. There are a lot of little islands on the eagen sea. And this islands has little and desolate beachs. We take away our customers to island with own daily boat or charter yatch tours.

More after we come back to hotel or resort. Mind you, If you want you can become topless all of the Turkish public beachs. Topless is free.

It must be Friday :)...Interesting though, Alanya people are considered to be religious in Turkey...yet, they have nooo problem with the topless babes on the beaches ;)It's all about the para he ... :lol:

Billy Lo (Sedat Erdogan) has Turkish origins but was born and raised in Belgium. He started making hip-hop at the end of the 80's and turned to house music at the beginning of the 90's thanks to DJ/Producers like DJ Sneak, Paul Johnson and Daft Punk. He at first produced sensual and deep house tracks on Belgian record labels like Sculpture and Legato and started remixing Paul Johnson, Fafa Monteco (from Superfunk) and Joey Negro tracks. The he created his Rumpsheyka record label where he releases his tracks under the name of Billy Lo (with bombs like "Close Your Eyes & See" and "Reality Of Life"). Then he released his "The Turkish Avenger" EP on Crydamoure under the name of Sedat. He also appeared on Crydamoure's "Waves" compilation. Now he's created a new record label called Street Nostral Freak.

Is it safe? Its obviously one of the cities I want to visit but I have heard some things from people who used to own a importing/exporting business.

SUMELA MONASTERY

This Greek Orthodox monastery was constructed within a cavern in the middle of a steep slope above dense forests, and lies 45km south of Trabzon. This was the most important of many monasteries built in the area during the Byzantine era and the best preserved, even after it was abandoned in 1923 when the Turkish Republic was created. Several years later one of the monks discovered treasures - including the famous icon said to have been painted by St Luke and responsible for several miracles. Recent restorations have enhanced the quality of the different chapels, some of which contain frescoes dating back to the 9th century.

Its setting is within Altindere national park, with thick forests, streams and trout farms, making it a popular excursion especially for locals at weekends. There are private bus tours from Trabzon, and it is also possible by minibus or shared taxi.

Goreme is a fairyland carved in tufa. The soft volcanic rock forms weird otherworldly peaks, and inhabitants of the region took advantage of the softness to carve homes and churches directly into the rock. I was staying at a cave pension in town, and had just visited the Open Air Museum, a protected area full of cave churches with beautiful frescoes. I spotted these hollowed-out windows while walking back from the museum to Goreme...there are so many places like this in the Cappadocia area, for every place that's a tourist attraction, clearly labeled with its former purpose, with ticket prices and guide to explain the frescoes, there's something like this that just looks like a possible home. The small hollows are pigeonhomes, used for collecting fertilizer.
