So, if I have an AGP 8x graphics card, it will fit into an AGP slot, but only run at AGP speed? Does PCI express fit into PCI slots?

Mate, AGP card will fit to an AGP slot, no matter if it is 2x, 4x or 8x ;)

And no, PCI-e doesn't go in to PCI slot :)

data rates almost never approach 8x, so you would be quite safe with a agp 4x

Mate, AGP card will fit to an AGP slot, no matter if it is 2x, 4x or 8x ;)
They will fit yes, BUT: newer cards (8x) use 1.5V if you yank one of those into an 4x (or slower) port it will fit, but BURN also (because the older slot pumps out 3V!).
