Es ist schon fast eine Ironie der Geschichte, dass der Bundeskanzler und der französische Präsident ihr Waterloo binnen Wochenfrist erleben mussten und damit Europa in eine Sinnkrise führten.

Kein anderes Politiker-Paar hat Europa so für nationale Politik instrumentalisiert wie die beiden. Selbst Helmut Kohl hat sich immer auch als Mittler der kleinen Staaten verstanden und französischen Dominierungsversuchen widerstanden.


In brief: Chirac and Schroder have dragged EU into it's current crisis with their "franco-german enetente cordiale". No other politicians have treated EU so instrumental for the sake of their own country national interest. Even Helmut Kohl had in mind the inbterests of the smaller countries balancing them with French attempts for EU domination.

it says "instrumenatlised the EU for national politics", not for the sake of their own national insterests!!!!
