lol, well aside from recent use, I don't think there would be any way to tell if a person had (Of course, unless they hooked you up to a polygraph).
Maybe so but if he does not have integrity they are sure to eventually find out about that.

there are ways to test people for marijuana use even if it has been years. One method is to take a chromosome sample and test that, you have to declare stuff to recruiters. If you lie, they eventually find out and you pay, but, as long as you are not using that crap anymore(never touched it myself, wouldn't want to) it shouldn't really be a problem. Just a thing about honesty ;)

There's no restriction of any type. The only one is that you can't join the military if you've used any drug (marijuana, alcohol, etc.) to the point that you needed to be hospitalized.
You may not be able to join the military, but it opens up a career in politics. rofl
Johnjohn, I have a bachelors in Biochemistry and I havent heard so much bull**** in my life. Chromosomal attachment of what --THC onto DNA, what study can you site. Proteins are continously replaced by your body and maryjane staying years in the body?? I can see chemicals from maryjane stuck in cellular lipids for months, but years??!! Common man! Smoking maryjane doesnt bar you from service. The question asked when enlisting is "Have you experimented with illegal drugs other than marijuana??". Even in sensative government candidate interviews that question is asked, CIA or FBI. If you do answer yes, the interviewer asks how many times. Then during the background check by the CIA or FBI, every roomate of yours is questioned. Past Maryjane use doesnot bar you from government or military service, its the hard drugs and current use. We call it "popping positive".

In my neck of the woods, it's the police who have a problem if you've used narcotics of any type.... and they DO hook you up to a polygraph to check.

just lie. theres no way they're going to know the better. even if they do hook you up to a polygraph, or pretend to like they did with me, then just lie there too. quit bitchin and do it.
ive worked extensively on polygraphs. Ill give a few pointers--relax dont be suprised every question is fair game, answer the questions quickly no thinking no pause, its a fact by wingling your toes during answering can allievate blood pressure and exhale during answering. Remember a polygraph is simply measuring physiological responses to questioning. dont employ the wiggle until after the your baseline is set.
If all else fails, put a thumbtack in your shoe. When they start the polygraph they'll ask you some base line questions to get a good average going. When they ask you your name, step on the tack.

Patriot: Chat anonymously with an Army recruiter and find out: http://www.goarmy.com/chat/
I dont think they would use the polygraph for regular infantry(101st, 82nd, 10th MTN, 3rd ID, etc.) However, for the security clearence(Rangers, SF), they will use the polygraph i.e. "Will you use US Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures to train foreign terrorists in an attempt to overthrow governments?"

or you could smoke some marijuana right before you take the polygraph test so you'll be stoned. then you can be all relaxed and when they asked if you've smoked marijuana be like, "no way maaan, i never touched the stuff, duuude"

Yeah, man. But like, the dead giveaway will be when you interrupt the tester to ask if he has any twinkies, cuz you're like starving man.

No dude, it won't affect you at all. This is no S hit. Just don't continue to be a shrub . BTW...Rangers ARE NOT Special Forces. They are part of USASOC and are an element of special operations forces, but, they are not Special Forces. Special Forces (Green Berets) have an almost entirely different job description.
To put it simply,
Rangers - Shoot everything in site, then a second time, then ask questions.
Special Forces - Ask questions, offer monetary support, ask more questions, ride around country on horseback, ask more questions. At some point there may be some shooting, but they'll deny it.
You ****ing idiots. The military doesn't use polygraphs and the CIA and the FBI are seriously thinking of doing away with it. If you people only knew the hoodlum gangsters that I was in the Batt. with. Jesus H. Christ on a popsicle stick, I knew guys who smoked pot while they were in the Batt.!!!!!! SOCOM doesn't test, ever. There's always the possibility that they can tell you to pee in a cup at any time, but the truth is, they never do.
Jack, that's very false the military does use polygraph. The DoD has a school in Alabama called the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute and guess what it does lie detecting. Its THE school for polygraph. You can even get your masters in polygraph there. All would be examiners, whether CIA, FBI, INSCOM, CI or local law enforcement attend. Conversely, the government is not seeking to abridge or disuse polygraph. In fact, the government is expanding DoDPI in terms in research into psychyphysiology and standardization. Understandably, we donot accept the results of a polygraph as the gospel truth, however, we believe its results can be indicators of DECEPTION.

Never knew a idiot could take a question not even aimed at him so personally.

when i went up to meps this ex-special forces guy that was working as a security interviewer guy for the recruiting counselors up there who had to interview the guys that wanted either ranger,sf, or intelligence i think. so i was talking to him and he was going over my file and asking me questions and he had one of those magnetic signature pads on his desk but it didn't have a pen with it and he was like "put your thumb on that" and he turned his comp monitor away so i couldnt see it and he was like "hold on i'm getting your baseline" and he proceeded to ask my questions and on questions i thought about for a little bit he would be like, "yeah..i'm sensing some high stress levels, we're gunna have the fbi look into that one" and he actually said that it was a polygraph. i couldn't believe he was doing that...poor guy

As far as meps goes, they'll make up anything to keep you out. The thing your explaining sounds like the finger print scanner where they scan your fingers. I went in July, so my memory of that room is kinda vague but there was no polygraph that I saw. Did anyone else go to meps in LA? The scanner is to the right of the door just as you go in to get questioned if I remember right. Did anyone see a polygraph there?

i think i would know the difference between the finger print scanner and the damn magnetic signature pad. i freakin signed my name on the thing later that day. and i scanned my fingers on the real finger print scanner later that day and watched as my finger prints appeared on the screen.
redondo, Marines or any DoD personnel within a Marine command exposed to sensative material, such as MOS 02XX, undergo the Test for Espionage and Sabotage, a polygraph. Administered usually by a MOS 5822 or 0211.
I have several friends in law enforcement and undergo a polygraph after their second interview.
As for drug testing on military personnel, it happens. In the Navy Dept. (Navy and Marine Corps) it usually happens in a random selection, however, the timing is different. Testers usually sample personnel after enjoying liberty or some time off. This is not the case if the powers that be suspect drug use. Theyll test you on the spot. Let me say this, pot smoking on ships is RAMPANT.

Im still in dep so my knowledge of the a lot of the policies are a little vague. I was just throwing out the idea. I have just never heard of a polygraph fitting your description.

All you guys saying they know someone who this and that happened to...or the DEP guys who say this SF guy was there and there was this thing on the desk, blah, blah, blah...your full of @#$% They do not do polygraphs or voice stress for entry into any unit in the US Military. The only thing they will conduct or background checks, interviews and finacial record checks.
