I'm having quite a problem finding a good pair of boots for fartlek, hiking and marching etc.

Problem is, I'm more of a lightweight, wiry frame and my feet, most specifically my heels, are quite slim. I tried on Hanwags, yet they were to big around the heel. Same with Lowa, I tried on various models.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

Don't run in boots. Leave it for when you are in the **** and running away is more important than the damage you are doing to your lower body.

Erm, did I say I intended running in them? I have a pair of Asics for running.

Have you tried a pair off Lundhags boots? I use a pair off Lundhag forester boots .Damn good boots for comfort and grip. They are made for the Nordic climate, wich means wet environment and in forests.

I've always associated fartlek with running, sorry for any misunderstanding champ.

Yeah, okay. No problem. Fartlek can involve running, nothing wrong about that. I had an adapted fartlek in mind. Like pulling a sled etc. p-)

No probs!

fartlek... Wat kind of name is that? Man, that was stupid.

Anyway, if it ain't too much trouble, which boots do you have and which did you own before them, and how are they better or worse than the prior.

That is quite interesting to me.

Danner boots are very narrow compared to others. Might want to try their 45s or 30s, depending on what kind of cut you prefer.

Try on some woman's model hiking boots - no kidding.

Buddy of mine had the same problem, and it worked for him.

Vivelamorte,

I have narrow heels and the same problem.

Try Raichle (www.raichle.com/) (esp the Mnt trail gtx)
they snug in really well around the heel and are very light for their
stiffness.

Yeah, womens boots, ought to work. I haven't tried on any from Raichle yet, I'll try them out.

Anyone know here how the new Oakley boots fit?

erm hes just helping champ and fartleks involve running so he has a valid point..

i think its one of the worst things to do to diggers make them run in boots..unless its necessary to much damage to be done

The ones I have are quite narrow around the heel so you should be fine.

They fit and feel basically like a stiff runner so there's plenty of padding to snug in your funny shaped feet

This is a very good idea... most boots are made in women's sizes and they have a slimer cut... unlike most women...

I'm fine with my Hitec boots.

Fartlek is a bastard, but no pain, no gain. It's great for building-up anaerobic stamina/ fitness/ whatever.

I'm going to have to get used to it to enhance my fitness, as well as running and interval training. Tough **** work, but well worth it. And naturally enjoy the sore pain of bodyweight exercises....

Where are you using them... the HiTec Boot isn't made for any outside of the city military work... these are security, and police shoes...

I have the same narrow feet / narrower heel

I did buy a pair of very nice Raichle hiking boots upon the recommendation of a boot store employee, but when put to the test (hiking with a pack over rugged Northern-Idaho (USA) terrain), I didn't realize it, but I had too much heel slippage. Even with quality wool socks and sock liners, the Raichles ate through all layers of skin on my heel, causing the most unbelieveable open-flesh wound.

Based on previous experiences with other shoes, never again will I buy any boots or shoes that, off the shelf, people state "fit narrowly." No - just not going to do it.

My recommendation:
Always go for a shoe or boot -specifically- made in narrow widths and, even then, expect the heel area to be too spacious in some of them.

I read Backpacker Magazine, and in the adverticements there is a shoe company that will make boots for your size... maybe try something like that out..
