I just saw this pic. Metak posted it on another thread.
I always knew that Spetsnatz guys had fought alongside the Serbs, but rarely did I see photos of them.
From Metak:
Ibarski Vukovi, recce unit of an armored brigade which fought in Kosovo&Metohia. Unit consisted of Serbs and Russian volunteers from Specnaz.
http://www.onpoi.net/ah/pics/users/377_1118175101_ibarskivukovi.jpg
I just found this on a Russian News website. This was made for the purpose if NATO troops had a ground invasion into Serbia.
3. 56,000 Russian Volunteers Ready to Fight for Serbia
MOSCOW, Apr. 2 - Andrei Manilov, am official of the Liberal Democratic Party, has told IZVESTIA, a Russian daily, that leading Russian financial and industrial groups are sponsoring arrangements for the dispatch of volunteers to Yugoslavia. He said more than 56,000 volunteers across the country had already signed up.
Battalions of volunteers, he said, included many veterans of special-purpose units with fighting experience in Chechnya and Abkhazia. Representatives of the LDP party had been negotiating with the Yugoslav embassy for over a week. Negotiations were also going on between the Yugoslav and Hungarian embassies to make arrangements for the volunteer force to go to Budapest by air, and then on to Yugoslavia by road. Manilov claimed that the transportation of the volunteers would be financed by the Yugoslav government.
-----============================================
Another interesting article:
Hundreds of Russian volunteers are already in Serbia; thousands are en
route; and several thousand more are prepared to follow them. Not only
former paratroopers and officers, but also generals and commanders of
military districts say they are prepared to defend Serbia. Col. Gen.
Viktor Chechevatov, commander of Russia's largest military district,
recently announced that he is ready to lead the expeditionary corps to
Serbia if necessary. What has produced this elemental howl of rage,
supported both by opposition and pro-Western politicians?
Source: http://www.math.yorku.ca/sfp/newsl/sfp55
==============================================
Here is something from BBC:
"We certainly know that Russians participated, Russian volunteers, mercenaries, we believe, did participate with paramilitary and other Serbian special forces," said Pentagon spokesman Kenneth Bacon, when asked to comment Tuesday on a report in the U.S. newspaper Newsday that dozens of Russian volunteers had taken part in the killing of hundreds of ethnic Albanians and the destruction of towns and villages around Prizren in southern Kosovo.

Well the Spetsnaz guys fought alongside the Serbian Special Forces, as they sweeped Kosovo of terrorists. The Russian guys brought a lot of experience in that kind of fighting.
Not sure about Bosnia. I think there, the Greek and Russian volunteers fought in their own units, under the control of the Serbian Central Command.

Photo is scanned from a book which describes actions in Kosovo&Metohia. Article about particular unit says that they are from Spetsnaz, that is my source. I didn't say that all soldiers on photo are from Spetsnaz but think that some of them are.

All volunteers which joined Serbian army had to present documents which prove that they have military experience.

I never saw those Russian gentlemen in my Kosovo travels, unfortunately. They probably 'helped' out the same way that I did: deep recon and penetration (if they were, indeed, recce for an 'armored brigade').
I hope they were kept on a relatively short leash by Command, though. Volunteer/para formations tended to do 'bad things' when unsupervised... Especially if motivated by religion.
One God damned Macedonian volunteer nearly made a mess of it when he started physically abusing some Gorani helping us out with terrorist supply paths. Nearly bothched the whole op.
It makes me angry just thinking about it.

Wasn't the "International Brigade" used to describe all non-Croatian troops, regardless of which unit they were assigned?

I met once 2 Greeks , ex paras, volunteers with Bosnian Serbs . They
confirmed that ex Spetsnaz were there and they were impressed by their
stamina . As they said they could stay 24 hours inside a river waiting for
ambush without hypothermia symptomes.

If so, that's true.
But, you're right, I AM very secure in this regard. However:
why cant I prove you are a poser? ROFL that pretty much says it right there.
It's not the task of the defendant to prove his innocense, ass-h-wipe. As the proverbial plaintiff, that is *your* obligation.
So, when you say 'You're a poser!', unless you're going to be following it up with documented arguments supporting said statement, I'm just going to classify you as a troll and file your silly ass away. Why should I feel the need to respond with anything but 'Prove it.'? If you can't, your claim falls flat right there. I don't have to take the time and make the effort to refute non-existent arguments.

Buddy, I've been in the 'West' since I was but a wee toddler. I *am* a Westerner by upbringing.
My parents moved not as refugees, but as people looking for a better life in a place with less hate. This was before the war in my country.
And don't go bandying about with age accusations. It doesn't fit your style. Trust me.
(Regarding the 'poser' thing, you are extremely mistaken. I'll leave it at that, because I'm hardly willing to a) find my service record b) scan it c) send it to some teenager who doubts me at my word. I'd be an idiot to do anything else.)

what ever you say lokos. I was right about your parents moving to the west - even if you dont want to admit they were refugees - dude its okay there is nothing wrong with being a refugee to the west. And I was right in my assumption you were brought up in the west. I highly doubt im wrong on the other accounts. But you cant prove your not a poser and I cant prove with out a doubt you are - so we come to an impass. Just remember I was there in my rocket ship- but the pictures I took were ruined at the one hour mart.

So every American, when you get right down to it, is a refugee, right? Well, they are, according to your criteria. After all, they moved to the 'West' (and by that you mean the USA) from other countries. Therefore they MUST be refugees. And by those criteria, sure, my parents are 'refugees' too.
You are once again mistaken. I *can* prove I'm not a 'poser'. But I won't be doing that. I don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone here - especially not to a wimpy teenage pancake like yourself.
And that's 'impasse', genius. We haven't reached any such thing. You made a dumbass allegation, you couldn't back it up, you failed. No impasse there. Just you looking like an idiot, again. But that's nothing new.

No, according to your definition ALL non-native Americans are refugees. Change your definition, and we'll keep playing. Until then... You stay wrong, I stay right.

I wont because I'm not a moron, and I'm not insecure. If you told me I couldn't jump off a sky scraper, I wouldn't be rushing to prove to you that I could.
