the movie version was 'stretched' to make it more dramatic for the movie. i still like it, though. :)

When we watched the movie, my wife (a native Mexican) said that the song is actually called "desguello," from the verb desguellar, "to slice the throat." The pronunciation "de-guello" sounds like a Puerto-Rican accent used overzealously by the cast, who probably didn't know any better. Not really sure of the song's history, but maybe that will help.
