U.S. Rep. Christopher Cox (news, bio, voting record), a California Republican and chairman of the House of Representatives Select Committee on Homeland Security, said the current elevated alert would remain through the New Year holiday based on a sizable spike in intelligence activity, but 'was not specific as to any date, time or place.' Those guys are from my area actually. One of two national task forces like that. The other being in LA. They've deployed a couple of times in the recent past, including an eathquake in South America and to the Pentagon during 9/11. Their first attempt to fly to Iran was foiled by air craft problems. But fortunatly they got off without a hitch the second time. Hopefully they can do some good over there. God speed.

No problem, Javehn. Those are AP pics'. I wouldn't have posted the photo of the IDF soldiers helping that old Palestinian woman out if I were just posting propaganda. Same for the Palestinians setting fires and throwing rocks over the separation fence, causing the teargas and concussion grenade reply...

If the picture of the soldiers shooting live rounds at the demonstrators seems flammatory, they are just pictures in the news and events surrounding the political climate in Israel at the moment.

As for the Tank crushing that particular car, we occasionally drive over cars with tanks too! ;)

Have a great day!

Big kudos to the U.S for helping out Iran woot :D

Its too bad Israel didn’t get that chance to help (Iran rejected any help from Israel :( ) like in did when Turkey (http://www.mfa.gov.il/mfa/go.asp?MFAH0fiz0) had their big earthquake

To He219.......hey there is no problem in posting ALL Israeli pics even those that aren’t the best of light (although there are a few positive ones that you "accidentally" miss at times ;) )but you should do that as well as for ALL American pics in Iraq or in general ;)

I see that the female USAF crew members covered their hair under caps. If this is out of respect to Iranian cultural sensitivities that required women to cover their hair, then I think this is a very constructive gesture. We should always tread carefully when it come to the cultural and religious mores of countries we operate in.

I read yesterday, that the city where that quake hit... 85% dead or wounded of the whole population. And that rate is climbing everyday.

This is so sad.

Imagine sitting there in your little house with your family, then BOOM an earthquake hits, your house stays standing... the next few days you find out 30,000 of your friends and probally family have been killed and even more wounded, and their homes destroyed.

Throughout the night, rescuers dug with their bare hands at a site of a mud and bricks house after their dogs and their radar sonar indicated a possible survivor of the quake. Rescuers said Monday is probably the last hope of finding more survivors from Iran's devastating earthquake as officials warned the death toll could reach 30,000 and that disease is now a threat. *******/Wolfgang Rattay

Awefull, just awefull.

Australia needs to get it's act together, and send more than 2million dollars, since we just had a Lotto of 30million across Australia. Made 26 new millionares.

We should be over there with our SAR Teams and sniffer dogs, and be handing out food, water and blankets.

Does anyone know what Exactly Australia is sending? Last i heard it was only 2million dollars in relief.

What about the cost of rebuilding that city, and those people (who are left alive) homes?

You need money for food, shelter...

Iran quake effort shifts to relief (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/meast/12/29/iran.quake/)

BAM, Iran (CNN) -- Search and rescue efforts for survivors from Friday's earthquake in Iran are being wound down as relief operations begin to focus on improving the living conditions for the tens of thousands left homeless by the disaster.

The U.N. agency said there were critical shortages of medicines, plastic sheeting, kitchen sets, stoves, blankets and food.

Tens of thousands of people were homeless with many spending bitterly cold nights sleeping in tents donated by international aid agencies.

An Australian Defence Force C130 Hercules will fly to Iran later today to deliver urgently needed stores and equipment for victims of the earthquake in Bam in South-eastern Iran. "The Australian Government decided this morning to mount the emergency airlift," Senator Hill said today. "The Government stands ready to assist in these types of emergencies. "The C130 is due to depart RAAF Base Richmond (outside Sydney) this evening with essential emergency stores including tarpaulins, portable stoves, water purifying material, water containers, blankets and medical stores." Senator Hill said the response was a cooperative effort by AusAID, Defence and Emergency Management Australia. Mr Downer said the airlift was in addition to an initial pledge of $2million for immediate relief assistance, which he announced yesterday. "The mixed relief cargo from Australia responds to the specific requirements spelled out by the Government of Iran and by United Nations and international agencies. The scale of this disaster demands quick action," Mr Downer said.

Australians who wish to assist on a personal basis are encouraged to make a cash donation to an Iran earthquake appeal by an Australian aid organisation, details of which can be found on www.acfoa.asn.au

The flight to Iran left Richmond air base near Sydney at about 7.30pm (AEDT) and would take 48 hours, the federal government said.
