It says that a large band of terrorists was destroyed in Chechnya. 33 killed and 3 captured. I heard about this for several days now, but couldn't find an english version to post. They were first hit by attack helicopters, then the rest of them, counting about 15, tried to hide in some cave, but were attacked by Army Spetsnaz GRU. Later one of the captives admitted that their band captured several villages, but were now trying to leave the Chechnya and go to Georgia. There were several Arabic mercenaries from different countries in the band also.

Can anybody translate this in english?It's a little boring, you know - Minister of the Interior Mr. Ivanov told details of actions against Chechen/Mercenary fighters/terrorists to the Russian President Mr. Putin.
The last group of eleven fighters/terrorists was destroyed by Russian soldiers. The whole assailant loses - 33 KIA (among others 1 Arab with the German citizenship, 3 from Turkey, 4 from Yemen, 1 from Saudi Arabia), 3 POW. The federal casaulties: 9 KIA (6 Border Guards and 3 soldiers MVD, they killed in car crash). The local residents helps the Chechen/Russian forces to track down all fighters.

As far as I know was it a german that converted to the Islam after his military service in the german army.

9 KIA troops was in first day in ambush.
After that insurgents was hunetd down with helos. The rest was finished off by Spetsnaz (May be 22 OBr SpN )

First war or second?
Should we include border incidents and Dagestan events or not?
Anyway not less than 4000. Much more insurgents were killed but Chechens are very fast breeding :) Also they use mercs.

In two words: very much. Many Russian civilians were killed in Chechnya since 1991 by Chechens. Many Russian civilians died during first war and many died after. Nobody knows exactly how much.
As for troops i suggest that both wars took approximately equal number of lives: ~4000 each (This figures includes all losses in 94-96 and in 99-03 periods). But nobody knows how much this numbers were biased on all levels. Actually nobody find any proof of this biasing but people simply do not trust to authorities.

Oh i see.
That Russian Civilians died during terror attacks ? you don't have approximately of cilvilians that died in terror sattacks in the last 3 years ?

No. In 1991-1994 they was simply killed by Chechens. For money, cars, appartments. Women raped. And so on. There was a link in General discussion to link to site with their stories
