I believe bloodtype O is the type that can give blood to every other type.. but O cant receive other types of blood.
Btw Hermannek, you have bloodtype B negative
A negative bloodtype is dangerous for woman, am I correct?
At least, when woman are pregnant.. and the baby has a positive bloodtype.. And you have a negative bloodtype, then if those two bloodtypes (+/-) 'going together' the mother can die..
I believe it was that way :)

yup something along those lines, but this is rather dangerous for a child. If the RH child blood will leak out to the womb to the next pregnacy mother defensive sistem will learn how to attack blood with positive RH and then can make children with will be rh positive to die or be very weakened. I believe we can deal with risk quite well now and protect mother from developing RH defencies in case of leak and save the child in case mom developed defencies already...

They're both universal
A+: This is the second most frequently occurring blood type.
A-, B+, B-: These are uncommon blood types and make up less than 10% of the population.
AB+, AB-: People with type AB blood are considered universal recipients. Donors with these blood types are universal plasma donors, meaning people with any blood type can receive their plasma. These AB blood types are rare.
O-, O+: O+ is the most common type, and patients with any blood type can receive O- or O+ blood. People with O- or O+ blood are considered universal donors.

I freak out too... except not that way. Usually I turn a lovely shade of green and lose consciousness, stop breathing, and my blood pressure drops so far as to be undetectible. Scared the hell out of quite a few nursing staffs and at least one doctor, who asked my mother not to bring me back to him. So yeah, needles are a problem for me. That's why I don't know my blood type.
I tried checking my birth records at the hospital, but apparently they destroy them after ten years so that's not gonna help me much.

A mate of mine was like that, he'd do everything at the dentists without a local anesthetic (is that spelled correct?)
So once the dentist was drilling up some holes, and he tore the armrest off the chair. Now the dentist refusese to do any work on him without giving him something first.
I've gotten over it, getting that shot at the dentist isn't that bad, and it's a hell of a lot better than going without. And the pain of the actuall shot dependes on the skill of the dentist or whoever puts it. Some are good, others are bloody horrible at it.

If you've ever had surgery, they should have noted your blood type on the records. If not, then you've just got to go to the Red Cross and donate. Yikes!
One way to get over your fear of needles is to catch a rare virus that attacks your nervous system and joints. You'll have so many blood tests that you don't even feel the needle prick anymore. I still have marks on my upper arms and wrists.

I didn't wanted a painkiller because I was scared to have shot into gum, now i just ask to get a injection when i feel at least slightes pain :)It's funny how a person reacts to certain events. In an Army hospital as a kid, a nurse broke needle off in my arm [as I turned my head in order not to see]. My mother freaked out more than I did. [The doc came, pushed the flesh down around it and (while I watched intently) plucked it out with a forceps.]
What I took from it was to remain calm or it makes things worse. I always watch closely when being injected or having blood drawn. Once I had to have 16 stitches on my ankle [12 over, 4 under]. I watched the entire procedure, making sure that no mistakes were being made. For me, that is comforting. Not knowing what is happening causes me anxiety, because of the earlier needle break incident.

Ha, don't know how it is with other dentists, but mine(female) is just making a shot behind quarter of teths close to an ear anestetizing it all, its quite safe place to shot so rather no risk of any pain and I had quite few already. If she drop the load a litte to far from the nerves it just take few minutes longer to work..and yes now you know why I talk about frankenstain feeling because it paralises also face muscles a little.
As for being put a sleep I'm litle scared of it. Neib of my aunt died that way(healthy 18 years old girl), anyway my dentist doesn't have license to put asleep and i like her very much...

Generally unless it's causing problems such as dizziness or fainting low blood pressure is not a bad thing to have.

Where did you get your medical training from Dr Herrmanek? :P Iron or diet doesn't have anything to do with low blood pressure.
Generally unless it's causing problems such as dizziness or fainting low blood pressure is not a bad thing to have.
Thanks. I didn't feel like trying to explain that my problem has nothing to do with anemia. It's not even really the low bp either. It's the damn phobia.

Never had surgery, and I can't donate because my bp is so low normally and then it drops lower when I freak out about the needle. Even if they could get a stick it would take three days to get a pint out of me. I hate everything.
ever considered eating more carrots&brokules
I eat at least 5-6 servings of vegetables/fruit a day... more than most people. It's not helping.
So eat more red meat.. anything with lots of iron in it should help...

I think it was some big blood transfusion scandal in Britain/France.
I am sure those happened in the USA too when hiv was spreading in the population but aids tests for blood were still not done. The blood gets tested anyway.
It has to do with bse and mad cow disease. This rule was made before the first madcow disease in America was discovered. Still many Eu countries have also had just one case of the disease.

I served with a lot of blokes who had their blood type and regimental/service number tatooed in the crook of their left elbow. Apparently the medico's wouldn't pay much attention to it though and would test your for blood type anyway.

Das ist gut, ja?
why does a canadian reply in german to a swede?
Perhaps a reference to the tradition of a specific German militaryformation (the waffen SS) to tattoo their bloodtype in their left armpit.

I haven't figured out where to have it. Maybe under the armpit on the forearm. Like someone said before.

If you would have it tattoed, would you get "O +" or "O POS"?

I had a mate who had the + right on the vein, he reckoned it was like and X marks the spot. I don't think it would matter if you used + or pos though.

Your blood type has changed????? that's rather unusal, the only thing I heard before this about such changes is when Rh Positive women are identified by their Rh Positive red blood cells. There is a very weak variant called the "Du" variant. It is actually an Rh Positive antigen, which would make a woman "Rh Positive," but since it is very weakly expressed in tests, it's possible to be mistakenly read as Rh Negative. Today, any Rh Negative woman should be tested further for the Du variant. If it's positive, then the blood type is corrected to Rh Positive, and no Rh Immune-globulin need be given.
