SILVER SPRING, Md. - "Three hours of high-adrenalin, high-intensity television," is how David Karp, general manager for the Military Channel, describes the new special on the 2005 U.S. Army Best Ranger Competition.

BEST RANGER will premiere June 16 at 8 p.m. on the Military Channel.

"We are honored that the Army and the Rangers have provided us with the opportunity to document [the competition]," said Karp. "We are thrilled with the results."

To capture every aspect of BEST RANGER, the Military Channel sent eight camera crews to the competition held annually at Fort Benning, Ga., which this year ran from April 22–24. Fort Benning is home to the U.S. Army Ranger School and the 75th Ranger Regiment.

The Best Ranger Competition spans more than 60 hours in which Soldiers compete in 16 endurance events. To stay in the competition, teams must complete selected events as well as meet certain time qualifications. The events are scheduled to limit time available for rest and meals.

As a sign at Fort Benning states: this event is "Not for the weak or faint hearted." Of the 23 teams that started this year's competition, only 11 finished.
