I'm curious, as to how the training differs in becoming a Ranger, a SEAL, and a green beret....which is toughest, and how long does the training last in each one of the above mentioned? Also, what's the waiting period like if you are an officer wanting to try out for the units I listed above, just need some help making up my mind of which to try out for.....would appreciate..... p-)

making up your mind?!!?

First things first, you won't make it if you are all wishy washy, second, you aren't an asset so that means you aren't important, and last, it ain't easy.

Like if you can just waltz into whatever you want, it takes work and dedication:bash:

You'll probably be one of those guys that drops out on the 2nd day of selection, if you even make it that far. You join because you wanna serve, and because you make it your patriotic duty, not for bragging rights or to be the "toughest".

training lasts as long as it takes, you concerned over how long it will take? you aren't cut out for this, go do something else, quit wasting your time.

And don't call em Green Berets. They don't like being called Green Berets. Would you like to be named after friggin headgear? I think not.

Special Forces Operators and SEALS are Special Forces personel. It is MUCH more difficult than your typical Army Ranger. Which is just as difficult.
I really don't have a lot of idea about the Special Forces but I have a good site on Ranger School (Not RIP).

basically, rangers are for the army specs ops as the the navy seals are for the navy specs ops. they differ from basic the training, the seals concentrate on the seaborne aspects of warfare while the rangers on land but offer cross training and both are on volunteer basis. :fork: :backhand:

Becoming a Ranger is no easy task, but it cannot compare to becoming a SF operator and especially a SEAL. BUD/S is one of the toughest programs of its kind on the planet. All are excellent at the missions they are designed for.

1. SEALs
2. SF
3. 75th

I would be willing to bet based upon the lack of nearly anything that could even be construed as knowledge of the subjects you claim to know about, that not a one of you has actually completed RIP, SFAS SFQC, or BUD/S.

therefore no matter how many websites you have visited an how much "research" you have done, you are not qualified to speek on such subjects.

wow, this thread went bad really fast. Best advice that can be given, is to call your local recruiter as they can give you the best idea of what your personality type is suited for. Here are some sites for ya.

Dang! I see them kids who say, "Yeah, I'm gonna be a SEAL, or a Marine." Those people just want to be "Elite", even though they have no goddamn clue what in God's name they are talking about. I've been swimming in a sea of stupid damn kids just like that for the past few years. None of them know what a SEAL actually does, nor what a Ranger is, what SF does, etc etc etc.

Nathan w_l_, I take it you don't like me. I'm going through RIP next year, during the early summer, depending upon assignment and convenience to the Reg't. I don't like hearing kids act like they are the **** and know everything, but I pretty much just ignore it. Let them act that way, for then they shall be able to look back on their childhood and say, "What the hell was I thinking?"

Let them fry themselves.

Hooah! p-)

This whole site has gone to ****. Oh wait, it's always been that way. I'm not coming here anymore. To all you stupid wannabe dip**** kids: the less time you spend on the computer and the more time you spend PT'ing the better off you'll be if you ever actually do joing the military and try to do anything high speed. I think most of the kids who are making it through RIP aren't the type that spent that much time on internet forums at all, they were probebly too busy playing sports and banging hot ass 17 year old chicks. Don't worry, there's no shame in being a computer geek.

Actually Jack, that isnt true. I went to High School with a kid, name was Matt. He wasnt on any of the sports teams, just tall and lanky. I myself went through high school playing football and on the wrestling team. I ran into Matt about a year or so ago and guess what, he was serving with the 2nd Bat. 75th Rgt. Its not always the big muscle bound guys that get into High Speed units. In fact, those guys are usually the first to drop out.

Just incase anybody was attempting to refer to me, Ive already signed on the dotted line so I wouldnt consider myself a "wanna-be" I also definately do my share of PT. I apologize if I have offended anybody with my posts and I do not mean to act like I know everything or am already a Marine incase I have. Also, anybody that values "banging 17 year olds" over the satisfaction of actually becoming a SEAL or Ranger or Marine has got some serious priority issues. Thats not to say I dont like doing it but you guys know what I mean.

I think this is the best website for pictures and information military related that I have ever been to because it combines pictures, videos etc and discussion forums with (mostly) mature intelligent people. I have definately learned alot from this website and am glad I found it.

Well said semperfi. Just like any site, it is what you make of it. There are plenty of conversations on here that I don't comment on because it's obviously people below my age level that are enjoying it between themselves; others where the technical level is way over my head and I just soak it all up to expand my knowledge. Read the topics that interest you, contribute when you have something to offer, and ignore the rest. :) Everyone was a wannabe at some point.

yea, im like 5'6 and weigh 110 lbs, but i can out perform most of the people in my school when it comes to long running, pushups, etc etc...i have more endurance, strenght and stamina than you would expect if you saw me.

Same here. I don't have bulging bicepts and such but I can do well over 50 Push ups before getting tired and can do a good 200 Sit ups before needing a break. I can run a couple miles pretty consistantly aswell.

Before signing my NROTC agreement I went to see my next door neighbor a former UDT, one of the few combat frogman, gone FBI SA (He had a huge impact on my life.) I was worried that at 5'6 and 110 lbs (I grew some in college, so I feel for you Elite) I wouldnt make the PT or USMC Bulldog or that I couldnt compete with the big dudes. Livid--the guy began yelling about all that he taught me, about life and the maxim "Its not the size of the dog in the fight, its the size of the fight in the dog." That's very true. In anything you do just be MOTIVATED!

That is exactly right, its all about motivation and giving 110% at all times. There are about 50 guys in my DEP and Ive noticed that the smaller guys can definately crank out the pullups and endurance runs like nobody else. They probably couldnt bench press 150lbs but all that really matters is the ability to lift your own body weight. I used to do weight lifting and once I signed up I learned that going from that to cardio workouts is a big differance.

SemperFi dont fall into the trap that upper body strength is not equally as important as indurance. Work on your bench press and puss ups, believe me in the long run it will make a difference. Also, stretch out after work outs. I know many rollbacks who strained or pulled muscles or had shin splints. You dont want to be a rollback. From what I heard its like getting adopted at thirteen--youll be among strangers who have already bonded.

Thanks for the advice man, I am still lifting weights but I only lift like 150lbs but I rep with it as much as I can as well as doing many sets of differant kinds of pushups. I had shin splints really bad when I first started running and they lasted about 2 months and finally went away, now Im just working on keeping up my rythem. Im about 6'0 and 209lbs but I want to be under 200 by the time I go down there.

i'm going to army boot this june as a sf recruit and right now i'm in the best shape of my life, heres what i've been doing: smoking, drinking, banging 17 year old bitches, and playing lacrosse. lacrosse has really been bringing me down physically, but i countered that by smoking an extra pack of cigs a day and banging 2 times as many bitches while drunk off my ass. it's worked for me, it can work for you. p-)

First of all with regards to SF and SEALs, I have no intentions of just wandering over and joining the team, this is where my comments have been twisted and rearanged. I know the extreme difficulty and passion it takes to even try and become one of them. I regret making it sound as though I am egamaniac or tougher than I really am. I apologize to those who thought otherwise....but in any case, I have better judgment and more class than to go ripping on somebody cause he phrases himself wrong or put somebody down because you think you are better than him, grow up guys, we are supposed to be adults here....
