Well if he did die, Big Boys will take it off their site.

he looks pretty shaky even when hes loading the shell, something tells me this was his first (perhaps last) time on the gun

Does anyone know what kind of gun that is, it seems like a very, very weird way of to fire. I have never seen a gun that has a lever on the breach block.

Also you think the other guys might look worried that they just lost a guy.

Who knows though...maybe loosing the loader is part of the drill. The gun ejected him fast enough.

When I first saw that I thought it was a light calibre like a 57 or perhaps a very light 76mm weapon. The mechanism looks a bit like the sliding block mechanism on a 122mm D-30, but to fire that they use a lanyard. I am guessing this guy flicked the firing mechanism when he should have used a lanyard (ie a bit of string attached to the "trigger"). Either way I am guessing broken ribs at the very least and possibly a wheelchair. Of course if he didn't have time to tense up and was relaxed when it hit him he might not be too badly injured. It certainly hit him hard.

****...

Thats gotta hurt. Why the **** isnt he using a lanyard, thats just stupid. Maybe he didnt mean to fire it, looks like he hit the primer a bit hard, altho i wouldve thought it would take more to make it fire than that.

It indeed looks as he slams the breech and fires the weapon, while he didn't mean to. Everybody knows that the gun kicks back, so this is not the way to fire it. It hit him hard. I hope he'll be ok, but this must have damaged a few ribs, the lungs and perhaps even his spinal cord

ouch!!!

I guess he'll never do that again. I thought it would take more to set of on of these, I guess it's got a light triger pull?

I just noticed he's also wearing a flak-vest. This may have protected him somewhat from the impact.

Amazing. Almost the first thing they taught to us in FDF artilliery was that never ever stand behind the breech.
That's pretty much the worst case, getting hit by the whole barrel & breech. Some semiautomatic guns (for example D30) also throw the cartridge out quite fast, and I guess that can be also rather painful/harmful.

There is a reason why everyone stands to the side of the gun when loading, I guess the guy never got the memo about it.

Never been an ARTY guy but could the weapon have malfunctioned? It seems a bit odd that just sliding the shell into the breech would cause it to fire.

Looks like a US 3" AT gun.

From what I recall when I first saw that video, it's a Taiwanese 57mm (6lb'er) Anti-tank gun. I don't know if that bloke was killed but I wouldn't be surprised :(

If I had to guess I'd say the primer malfunctioned. It might have been just defective or then it wasn't screwed properly. When shell is inserted breech closes automatically and in some cases may ignite primer, especially if it isn't screwed all the way in the cartridge. Never seen this happening though, but I've heard it's possible.

I don't know...it does look like he is fireing the thing (maybe cocking it, i know not all guns are auto cocking). Normally when you load it just a matter of pushing the round in. The breach block get closed by lever or it auto closes from the force of the loader. This guy looks as if he is move things around and then stricks a handle of some sort (some guns dont have lanyards).

Also what is up with the other guys on the gun, they not even putting an effort into helping out that guy. Even if he is dead you think someone would rush over to check. They just turn around an walk off slowly.

Maybe the shock of what they just saw made them react slowly.

Maybe he was looking straight-ahead. Regardless, that's gonna hurt in the morning.

Looks like it went off when he slammed the breach shut. Definately wasn't on purpose. My guess is when he slammed the breach shut it set the round off.

Well, he probably won't be having any stupid kinds any time soon, eh? p-)

That looked like it really hurt... but I would also be paying more attention while loading/doing anything near a big gun like that.... just my personal thought =]

It didn't really look like he meant to fire it... What I find strange is that soldiers standing next to him didn't react like any other man would and didn't immediatelly run to check if the guy is ok :|
