Video of friendly fire incident in Northern Iraq from BBC journalist that was in the convoy- you don't get any closer than this and live to tell. Video link is RP and in the upper right side of the page.

The blood dripping onto the camera lense definitely added dramatic value. I wonder if they figured out how it happened yet. In Afghanistan, a similar thing happened when a GPS unit was reset and gave them their own coordinates... I wonder if this was the same thing, or just a plane looking for targets of opportunity.
If this is the incident I'm thinking there were some US Special Forces (Green Berets?) troops along with the Kurdish fighters in the convoy. The spotted an Iraqi tank and called for air support, somehow the pilot dropped his bombs on the convoy instead of the tank.

Same thing happened on an exercise in Canada (BATUS) - a FOO party called in their own GR during a live fire ex, rather than a position to their front. 2 killed, the others wounded - fortunately they were in a bunker.
Moral of the story is trust the technology, but double check the idiot using it...
