I live in Phoenix, Arizona (3.2 milllion people) and we have 2 MD500, 2 Bell Rangers, 1 AS-550, and a new A109 all for law enforcement.

Here's a couple of them

LAPD has gone to an all-Eurocopter fleet for patrol (I think they have about a dozen) with 2-3 old Bell JetRangers kept in reserve. They all fly from Piper-Tech in downtown LA. Not the new standard paint scheme of silver over dark-blue. Damn near impossible to see at night.

http://www.code2high.com/LAPD_Air%20Units/lapd_h3.jpg

They also have a UH-1 for SWAT purposes.

http://www.code2high.com/LAPD_Air%20Units/lapd_huey_2.JPG

LA County Sheriff has a lot of helos. Two dozen at least, probably more. Most are stationed at Long Beach International airport but every Sheriff station has a landing pad. They too have recently switched to an all Eurocopter fleet for patrols after years of operating a multi-colored fleet of MD500Es, MD520Ns and MD600Ns (although a few old MD520 NOTARs are still flying until they can be replaced by new aircraft.) Note all new helos will have a standard paint scheme shown below.

http://www.code2high.com/LASD_Air%20Units/lasd_as350b2_8.jpg

They also have a US Navy surplus HH-3 for SAR purposes.

http://www.code2high.com/LASD_Air%20Units/lasd_air5_10.JPG

Irvine PD do not have their own helos but neighboring cities Costa Mesa and Newport beach co-operate a small fleet of helos for use over all three cities. Huntington Beach is another neighboring city and has 3 helos which I've seen flying over Irvine as well.

Huntington Beach PD (it should be noted this is a MD500E. The department has since switched to three MD520N NOTAR helo.)
http://www.helispot.com/images/00896.jpg

Costa Mesa/ Newport Beach operates two MD500Es and one MD520N NOTAR (pic below)
http://www.helispot.com/images/01504.jpg

and one EC120B Colibri
http://www.helispot.com/images/04039.jpg

Orange County Sheriff also operates a few helos over their contract cities. They usually fly MD600Ns.

http://www.helispot.com/images/01030.jpg

the CHP also operates helos, but I've never seen one in 20 years living in the larger LA/Orange County area. They're used in the more rural areas of the state. Also keep in mind the large number of Federal Helos flying around (Border Patrol, Coast Guard, DEA, US Navy, CA National Guard, USMC, etc.)

Also, I know it's not a police helo but worth mentioning. LA County Fire is the only agency in the country to use the UH-60L Firehawk. They have three.

No. 2582. Aerospatiale SA-341 (N77GH) "Blue Thunder"
Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The entire cockpit was removed and replaced by new cabin with flat windows. All sorts of simulated equipment were added outside and inside the cabin. Supposedly it had bullet-proof glass, armour plating, 20mm barrel cannon, surveillance gear with visionics and sensors, computer-databank links, FLIR, TADS, PNVS, whisper-mode, etc. Due to all these changes the max speed was reduced from 200mph to a merely 90mph. The superb fast shots in the movie and following TV-series were obtained by maximum speed turns around a swiveling camera. The useful load dropped so dramatically that with half of the maximum 130 gallons of fuel, only the pilot was aboard during these 'high-speed' runs."

Its not an EC-135 in your second and third pics its an EC-145.
The EC-145 is bigger and more powerful than the EC-135. You can spot the difference easily the EC-135 has a "fenestron" (protected tail rotor).

Toronto doesnt have a chopper, but has access to choppers from the surrounding regions, which makes more sense as most of torontos crime happens outside of the city in the suburbs like scarborough.

I think it has a tube at the end which pushes air out to balance the aircraft out, you can see it in this picture its the long tube sticking out at the tail.

Negative Ghost Rider on the tube function. It's actually a vent on the port side of the helo.

There is a turbine in the tail, hence the thck looking tube style of the tail boom. At the end of the tail are vents that can be controlled...more air or less air.

Also keep in mind the large number of Federal Helos flying around (Border Patrol, Coast Guard, DEA, US Navy, CA National Guard, USMC, etc.)

Costa Mesa/Newport Beach dont use Notars and 500's any more. They have three EC120's now.

There is not a seperate turbine in the tail rotor, the air is from the main turbine and vented out the tail. The system replaces the anti-torque rotor, known as the tail rotor.

The little stick you pointed out is called a stinger, its there to keep the tail boom from hitting the ground durring an autorotation or other really aggresive manuver.

south korean coast guard's KA-32c
actually south korea got some russian weapons and other equipment
(t80,ka-32t,ka-32a,bmp3 ...) because of russia's ability of paying debt.
so south korean military force has some russian equipment.
south korean army was impressed bmp3's crossing river ablity.
(later army need same ablity on NIFV so NIFV can float by using inflatable
tube on inside of side armor)

Also we have 12 AH-1F's based at our airport from the 142nd aviation brigade, US Army reserves.

National Police Crisis Action Teams (UPCAT)

The National Police CATs are similar to US SWAT teams, but with greater emphasis on counterterrorism training and capability, reportedly to include operations involving hijacked aircraft. These teams, established in the 1970s, would reinforce the OIKB in the event of a major terrorist incident.

OJKB - Ozel Jandarma Komando Bolugu(Special Gendairme Commando Company-SPGC)

The OJKB has several missions which include counterterrorist actions, hostage rescue, riot control, and other high-threat criminal actions. Members of the unit receive extensive training at the Jandarma School at Foca and also from selected Army instructors. All three companies work under the direction of the police regions to which they are assigned, but can also receive tasking from the Jandarma Headquarters in Ankara.

^Latest acquisition... ;)

The KC area doesn't have too many police helos, but I've seen and personally fueled KCPD's MD500, and the Kansas State Troopers have a couple surplus OH-58s.

Various air medical services in the area run AeroStar 350/355s, Jet Rangers, and at least one service has a couple BK-117s.

Mi-24PS (Patrul'nospasatelny: patrol/rescue): Transport/law enforcement/SAR variant for Russian Ministry of the Interior. Production or series conversion status unknown. First prototype converted from Mi-24P, retaining 30 mm cannon and wing endplate pylons. Undernose LLTV/FLIR replaced by downward-pointing loudspeaker group, ATGM guidance antenna by FPP-7 searchlight. Nose cut away to allow installation of weather radar and EO turret. LPG-4 winch (120 kg; 264 lb capacity) installed aft of starboard cabin door, grab rails, foot rests and rappel attachment points around sides of doors. Four of six-man squad carried can rappel from the aircraft simultaneously. Satellite communications, secure encrypted voice radios and special police-band radios. Second prototype similar (albeit painted white, with blue cheatlines and Militia titles) but converted from Mi-24V, with USPU-24 turret replaced by FLIR ball. Marketed as Mi-35PS for export.

The city began growing even more dramatically after the Arab Oil Boycott of 1973, and combined with satellite municipalities such as St. Albert and Sherwood Park, Edmonton's metropolitan population now sits just over 1,000,500 (2005 census est.)

The Maryland State Police acquired the SA-365Ns for public law enforcement and MedEvac duties.

But guess what?

2 choppers from the contract were withdrawn from inventory, modified with VIP interiors and assigned to the Governor's office for him and his relatives personal use.

I wouldn't trust that R22 with my life.

I do all the time and I pay to do it. They are safe if flown by a competent pilot. You don't out sell almost every other helicopter manufacture in the world with a poor safety record. It is not a fly by night operation making experimental helicopters. They are FAA certified aircraft, manufactured in a most impressive factory (spotless and efficient).

Also, I know it's not a police helo but worth mentioning. LA County Fire is the only agency in the country to use the UH-60L Firehawk. They have three.
