If you can't defeat United States militarily, but you could cripple its lifeline. The vunerable mighty US economy. I read a report that China is pouring its resources to capture US economic control. Its seem China is bidding its time militarily on Taiwan. It cannot take action to invade it within two decades. but it is starting it assimetrically, it learns from historical fact that US military rely on its economy. The US economy are comprise of technological know-how, industrial capacity, and economic influence. Without this factors, US will look like its worse great depression in its history. PRC has quarter of a million spies all over the world driven by nationalistic feelings that binds them to their ancient celestial empire. Instead of doing waste of time researching, they are doing it in a borg style situation. Assimilate the technologies, corporate buying spree, reverse-engineering and economic sabotage. If it was Japan really could overtake US Economically during 70s and 80s but fence them with a limit on resource, territorial size, bounded military on constitutional ground. On the otherhand, China doesn't have this limitation. Massive mineral resources on the mountainous west side and cheap labor on its coastal shore on the east. Now you have a catalyst to become a threat to US. Learn from the Soviet's defeat on supply-demand, Germany's paranoia on jews, Great Britain declines that mother country is smaller than its colonies. Now, China is trying of making history to defeat the undisputed lone superpower on its terms.

This is my summary on the reports

China this China that, China will fall because of a baseball bat!
Listen, sillyness aside, Your great China may have tons of oil and many ways to steal our technology, but many of the new flamers here with China this China that forget that the ChiCom only has 12% farmland. And by your precious timelines of capability(Invasion capabilities) that the China flame croud boast here you again forget, China will have less and less food to feed the little tech stealing factory workers! So unless China buys Montana and Idaho for it's farmland give me a break. China will implode in another 10 years or so , just like Japan did when buying up the world. China my ass thats what I say!

Listen,
on another note my ex girl who just came back from China not so long ago told me it is nice from post cards and movies with all the nice highrise buildings, but what those post cards fail to show are all the little shacks that the great middle class of China lives in! Give me a break, super power???? Military super power????? even less!
I see the other flamers have left and now the Anti Americans are back with China in your face remarks, listen I like China, I also love the ladies, culture and food over there, but please lets keep stuff into perspective!

Weep em man it's America!

Stuntman, I don't think you got the point of Zero-Sen's post. It wasn't anti-American at all. On the contrary, it was a wakeup call for Americans to be wary. China is not the enemy, nor do I envy them. I'm happy to be an American, even though I choose to live in Japan. But, the fact of the matter is that China has its eyes on the US, and is quickly overtaking us in many areas. Just look around your house. How many things were manufactured in China. How many in the US? Do you know what that means? That means jobs!! Without workers paying taxes, there is no such thing as a strong military. And an American flag is not going to go far in feeding a family when daddy gets laid off due to his factory relocating to somewhere on the other side of the Pacific.
Good post ZeroSen!

While it's wise to keep an eye on China - they are far from being some all -encompassing juggernaut. The US economy is far more diversified, more robust than that of China. It's not even a contest. Their economy is still far behind many developed nations - and they are riding high on their potential to investors. We all remember what can happen to potential to investors - anybody remember huge Internet IPOs on dotcoms that never made a penny? And the eventual and unavoidable crash that followed? Well, investors will wake up about China too. Markets are built on perceptions, not realities, and eventually markets circle back around to reality. In fact, some say that has already begun and the love affair is ending. I hope for a soft landing for all concerned.

I'm hopeful that China will wake up and realize their true potential -their people. I think they will continue to follow Taiwan's lead, and eventually rejoin it (not the other way around).

Do remember, although we buy a great deal of things from China, China needs a market to sell them too. If the US gov. closed down WalMart, where else would Chinese factories sell their crap? The west may go without cheap clothes and salad shooters but many Chinese would go without jobs or western capital.
Trade is a 2 way street.

First it was Imperial Germany

Then it was Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany combined

Then it was Communist Russia and Maoist China combined especially in the fifties and sixties.

After those two it was Techno Japan.

Now its China again this time following Communism in name and political power only, to cripple the US??

Now where have I heard this bs before?

Arent these amateur strategists tired of burying America in their heads? It wont happen.

Look out for a Super Europe some decades from now. Forget China.
