Shari’a law in action: Iranian court orders man to be blinded.
An Iranian court has sentenced a man to have his eyes surgically removed for a crime he committed as a teenager 12 years ago. Amnesty International has condemned the sentence, reported in the Iranian daily Etemaad, but local human rights groups say these unusual punishments are hardly ever executed. ...
Etemaad says the accused, identified only as Vahid, was 16 when he threw a bottle of acid at another man during a fight in a vegetable market in 1993. The top opened - Vahid insists accidentally - and blinded his victim in both eyes. A court said the crime should be judged as qisas, a category for which the Koran stipulates specific punishments, in this case an eye for an eye. The paper said the sentence was to pour acid on Vahid’s eyes, but an appeals court ruled it should be done surgically so as not to harm other parts of his face.

Well, an eye for an eye doesn't really work in practice does it?

I was there. People are nice, gas is cheap, food is good. Lots of interesting things to see. You feel safety on the street. Not so bad as you think. Yes, they are harsh to criminals but the same is in Texas. And as you here they very rare executed strange punishments.

Interesting perspective.
Just as an extra note, why would someone throw a bottle of acid in anger, but not want the bottle to come open. What would be the point?

There is no correlation between an act committed in rage and anger and a state sanctioned brutality.

I agree.
But, don't you think that alot of it depends on which state commits that brutality. For example, China have the highest rate of executions in the world. Dwarfing the figures from the rest of the world combined. Yet no one seems to care now they are becoming such a financial power.

Having a jar of acid while down at the vegatable market does seem a bit suss to me. Oh well the f*cker will think twice before he does that again, mind you his aim won't be that good after this operation.

The hazards of a Euro thinking... rofl
Since I am an NRA member, why would this "go down well" with me...? Not sure exactly what a "right wing christain" is, so it is unknown if I fit in that Euro category as well.
Do elucidate sir...

Why is it that here in Canada and the USA, the 'religious right' must be stopped and are branded evil and backwards, but we have to 'respect' and 'understand' these other cultures who are extremely religiously rightwing?

If you throw something like, oh, A BOTTLE OF ACID, your intention is to hurt someone really bad.
I agree with the verdict. Just took them a long time to do it.

I would be impressed if anyone here knows anything about Sharia. Everyone here claims they know it - but the actual truth is that you guys know nothing really.

I think it's a good idea to remember that the Iranian government and the Iranian people are not necessarily one and the same.
