Is it me or the blurry guy in the background is carrying a short variant of the C-8? General Henault surely doesn't walk around without protection.

Good eye. I wonder if it's an A1 upper, or if he just wants the carrying handle there with the eotech up front. It might be this Diemaco CQB variant:

They could also be Military Police, the UK RMP have been providing CP duties for some Brit Politicians in Iraq.
The Sgt talking to the General has lettering on his Rank tab that is possibly RCMP?.He's also carrying the short C8/CQBR?Deimaco,as is the guys around him, aslo wearing masks...........a great picture indeed!Any more?

The lettering is RCR, not RCMP. Royal Canadian Regiment. Nice pic by the way!

[/img] wow this reminds me of the Israeli sawn off car 15's due to its barrel length, (which Israel had been doing to some of its regular car 15’s for over the past ten years though its stopping to do any more as I will explain below)
You see colt came out with the "colt commando" which is a 11.5 inch barrel carbine version of the M16A2 (which is also in service in various Israeli units) while the Israeli "home" version is simply taking a regular car 15 and chopping down the barrel from the original 14.5 inch length to a shorter sub 10 inch barrel length.
The advantage of this is that it’s a AR and that the shorter it is the more it has a concealment tactical advantage, which is very good for CT units that do a lot of short range urban CQB fighting alone. The problem is that below the colt commando’s 11.5 inch barrel length,(which colt deemed to be the extreme minimum that it should go) Shorter barrel lengths would not allow the building of sufficient gas pressure in the barrel, resulting in acute jamming problems, basically it caused the weapon to jam every now and then due to an insufficient gas pressure build up in the barrel. The malfunctions problem didn't occur too often, but during actual combat deployment one jamming in the wrong time and in the wrong place, might be very hazardous to one's health.
As a result this weapon is not in widespread use (it never was) though still today it is used for some CT units who operate mostly in short engagements such as MOUT combat.
Does this Diemaco version have the same problem as the sawn off car15 for it looks like the same barrel length?
Here is a pic of the colt commando and then followed by a few pics of the Israeli sawn off car 15’s

the M203 model fitted on the sawn off CAR15 was also sawn off so its barrel will not pass the CAR15 barrel.
As can be seen, the sawn off CAR15 have such a short barrel that the M203 adapter is fitted right on the weapon's flash hider. Also note a iron cable in front (between the M203 barrel and the muzzle) in order to prevent the launcher from moving forward accidentally due to the unusual fitting to the weapon.
P.S nice Canadian pics :D
Shalom :D

Why don't you spell Afghanistan correctly before you start criticizing. Or were you too lazy to add the h?
Sgt Dave Stewart, (left) of Parachute Company, Third Battalion,
Royal Canadian Regiment Battalion Group guides General Ray Henault,
Chief of Defence Staff, through an internally displaced persons camp
during a dismounted patrol in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Doesn't say anything about the protection detail, but they do have
different rifles. Sgt Stewart has a C8A1.

All the C7A2's are green I think, have normal barrel lengths. It's a C7
with a C8 buttstock. I just talked to a guy on New Years from New
Brunswick who helped get a bunch of them ready to ship to AFG. A-Stan,
AFG, The Stan, Mog, Nam. Only Iraq doesn't need shortening. ;)
Can somebody edit that giant photo back to a link... it really $#%s up the
forum.
