I think this "Jews are hated" thing is a bit overstated today.

I think, however that back in earlier times Jews were hated because:

1) They are different from the majority. And there are always some tendencies of mistrust or disliking towards and ethnical or religious minorities. Christians and Muslims suffer under this, too, in regions were they are the minorities.

2) They were often bankers and moneylenders. And those are never very popular. Because they are rich, despite not working in the usual sense, and will often destroy you mercilessly ehen you can't pay back your loans.
However what people tended to forget was that, while Christians were often forbidden to lend money, for Jews it was made difficult or even forbidden to practice a different trade. And that was the reason for the many Jewish moneylenders, not some overwhelming Jewish preference for that trade.

This resulted in many prejudices coming up that Jews would be greedy people who would constantly be exploiting other, normal, hardworking people. And because of 1) ("They are different") people only seldom came to correct those prejudices. And furthermore: once cliches over a group or a people have firmly established themselves, they can be astoundingly resilient to change.

In the early twentieth century there was another point: Many Socialists and Bolshevics were, out of some reason, of Jewish heritage. And that led to an intermingling of the terms "Communist" and "Jew". The Nazis for example used both words at times as if they were completely interchangable. So Jews altogether were made responsible for whatever was done in the name of Bolshevism.

Today, despite of the existence of the state of Israel and the fact that indeed many Europeans do not agree with the Israelic point of view, I think that there is no anti-semistism anymore that is comparable to earlier times. Some people like to make it seem that way, but the reason for that is usually to make Europeans look bad.

My 2 cents.

At it's face it makes no sense .. it's as if the jews have been hated througout the centuries for simply existing. But the jews are the apple of God's eye and have been hated throughout history for that reason. But those who hate the jews and Israel do so at their own peril.

"I will bless those who bless you,
I will curse those who treat you with contempt,
and all the peoples on earth
will be blessed through you. " Genesis 12:3

God tends to make an example out of those who come against His people. (From Pharoh's chariots at the bottom of the red sea to the ruins of Hitler's Third Reich to the stunning defeats of the arab armies in 1948 and 1967 with more examples to come)

Indeed, he who watches over Israel never tires and never sleeps. Psalm 121:4

From the holocaust of WWII - the founding of the modern nation of Israel in 1948 and the overwhelming odds it overcame to avoid complete annihilation is the ultimate underdog story and should be an inspiration to the rest of the world. Yet the tiny nation of Israel - that tiny sliver of land in a sea of arab despots is hated by the nations of the world.

Most oppressed humans think of their plight as unique.

Many oppressed humans attempt to use their own oppression for gain usually after the oppression has ended.

It's human nature.

I'll use me for an example.
Living here in Florida and being born in 1985....I have been raised by a society that says I need to feel guilty for the slavery that took place here in the US so many years back.

Well....My family came to the US from Cardiff Wales in 1903 to work the coalmines in Alabama.....so I have no "guilt" over any type of issue with slavery.
Furthermore....I take offence at people that use the plight of their ancestors to get personal gain.

I accuse some of the living relatives of slaves of this and therefore have distain for them that leaks over into their masses. I know it's not right...but it's true.
Same could apply to Jews. Alot of people are really tired of hearing how oppressed Jews were....hmmm?

I could be wrong....but it's a thought.

Not saying this is always the case but seems like it is more often than not.

Just like I could never disagree in Highschool with a person that wasnt white or I'd be labeled racist by them....even if debating something as silly as the weather.
It seems many Jews do this too.

Just another thing I find interesting: what was the only period during which the jews, as a minority in an host country, have had no problems?

In the Ottoman empire, under the Sultan's rule.

It could be interesting to analyse this period to know why it happened this way and how these parameters could be used again for our current time, for the common interests of the jews as minorities and their host countries.

Hate is an irrational feeling. By studying what's happening during hate manifestations, it can be perhaps possible to avoid that this hate comes back again and again until the end of time. Of course, this needs an honest effort from all parties but in my opinion, it's worth to try to escape this way the horrors of the past.

http://www.csulb.edu/~kmacd/index.htmlI thought that these were the worst possible sources to recommend on this topic. Then, of course, someone recommended 'Mein Kampf.' :cantbeli:

Anyway, I recommend reading BigBaribal's linked tripe with a block of salt the size of a subaru, if, indeed, you feel you must read it at all.

If anyone wants better suggestions, I'll be glad to provide them. As a starter, Sartre (who was, in general, something of a jackass, although unquestionably a great thinker) actually wrote a rather good book on the topic. It's called 'Anti-Semite and Jew,' and, especially for Sartre, it's really quite readable. Highly Recommended.

It is all based in the middle ages. It was a time of deep rooted christianity mixed with popular belief. Under christianity it was forbidden for christians to lend money to other christians. Therefore, many Jews took this "profession", not voluntarily, but were forced do do it, because other work was prohibited. Lending money to other people, many Jews got richer and richer that in return made their neighbours jealous. For those people who had depts it was easier to get rid of them by pointing their fingers at the "lenders", the Jews rather than paying the money back. They invented stories that Jews poisened wells or were responsible for other diseases. In addition to this, the churches told the believers that Jews killed Jesus by handing him over to the Romans. This belief then got deeper and deeper in the minds of the people that led to progroms throughout the middle ages.

Today, many people equate critizing Israeli policy with anti-semitism that applied in general causes more damage to the Israeli cause than helping it. In discussions it can be used as a killing argument. I am pretty sure that in case the Palestine-Israeli conflict is solved this critizism will disappear.

Didn't read that part, so I don't know, I am not saying that all Jews are bad, I have a couple of Jewish friends, so there are exceptions

So only your friends are the exception then ?
Listen here Adolf junior, you think that picking a race or religion is a perfect way to push all blame away from one's self?

I bet you dont even have a clue what you are even talking about. I bet your are so far away from knowing what you are exactly talking about, that you need to hitch a ride from the space shuttle to get back home.

So what are you?
You a 16 year old from a poor neighboorhood, who needs to find someone to place the blame on your own misfortune for?
Wait a second, maybe your a rich kid, who's parents think your a little sunshine, but you need to be bad ass ,cus thats just cooler.
Or maybe your just so inconfident with yourself, you need a group to affiliate yourself with to give you a boost.

Maybe you just havent seen enough of the world, havent looked at the other side of the **** someone is pumping into your brain.

something to do with Jesus and if you disagree with a jew you're anti-semantic. Oh and the most notable ones on this board (Javehn and Moledet, along with a catholic who likes to pretend he's jewish) certainly dont help.

Would you give me an example of mine post where I've said something offending ?

Well , besides the French jokes which my fellow fransuazen don't take kindly , but it's all love , baby

As well , I disagree with Moledet almost on all issues , so if you don't know your forum members , respectfully , shush the hell up ;)

And btw

and if you disagree with a jew you're anti-semantic

?

I am a nineteen year old university student, what you say above is all bull****, my friends aren't the only exception, and when I dislike Jews I speak from the experience I gained from books and other people, I am not alone who thinks that way

You gain your experience from books, and other individuals other than yourself, so no first hand experiences?

Well screw me and call me margeret that says it all.

Of course your not the only one that thinks like that.
Im not the only one that thinks your a misinformed, blinded individual.
Just because your 19 and in university doesnt guarantee your intelligence.Nor your ability to tell right from wrong , or truth from deception or manipulation.

So you concur with Hitler's perspective about the jewish religion ?
Is that what your trying to say ?
