View Full Version : Is the army recognized fairly in OIF/OEF?

I have wondered lately if the army is getting the credit they deserve in the missions abroad. If I hear news about an army unit accomplishing something in a-stan or Iraq, I hear from people (on this site and in person) "good job marines".

I am not sure if the army isn’t talked about as much or if they are not contributing enough, which is it???

I am signing into the U.S Army this Friday and I don’t want to be hearing from people "ohh so you're not a Marine" I have the utmost respect for the marines and what they do, but I also want to make sure that the Army and myself as well get the respect we deserve too.

please serious responses and no flaming

What does it matter if your a marine or not?

every job in the army counts towards something, like if you want to become a Murse...

People think you have to be in the Marines to be tough, to be a warrior, totally not true.

I'm not in the military but personally I believe the Army isn't getting the credit they deserve. From what I've heard from my brothers friends over there, they are doing a lot more than they are being credited. I think another group that isn't getting credit is the new Iraqi Army.

I disagree. Every time I watch the news at night it's an Army unit. SF and Rangers have gotten alot of coverage also in A-stan. The only thing I can remember about Marine units are their current fight in Wastern Iraq and the big offensive in Fallujah. I loved the pics of my former unti taking out Saddams boys ala TOW.

I think it's been pretty fair, yes. The 101 got spotlight when they took out Saddam's sons. The 4th ID got the same when they caught Saddam. The SOF, per usual have been kept out of the light for the most part, which is they way it should be.

Plus, in 2004 Time Magazine selected "The American Soldier" for POTY.

Let me get this straight, you're not yet IN the Army but you're already worried about how much good "press" they're getting? If that's all you have to worry about then life is pretty damned rosey. I don't think the currently serving members are worried about their PR.

That isn't what I am worrying about at all joe, if I was worried about what people thought of the army and the armed forces in general in OIF and OEF, hell I would stay as far away from it. I am joining because I believe in my nations military, I am just tired of people saying in response to me joining the army "ohh so your joining the marines?"

i just want credit given to where it is deserved, and don't expect anything for myself. if i wanted some credit i would join the marines p-)

BTW: i sign in on Friday

Marines are always glorified and always take credit for being the brunt of the force, they're Marines p-)

I think what's not being noted is Afghanistan.

I was at this July 4 event (5,000) people, and the head guy wanted to recognize people who served/served in the military.

Started with WW2, Korea, Vietnam...and then Iraq. That pissed me off so much. Reminds me, I should write a letter to him now.

The spotlight has been off Afghanistan for a while... since about 2003...hmmm p-)

Of course major operations or casualties will bring it back for a little while, but then it just seems to drift right back to some other place...

Damn, already the inter-service jealousy and you're not even in yet.

Honestly, get used to it. The general public belief is that the Marine Corps is tougher and bears the brint of the fighting. A lot of it lies in historical fact, and other places a carefully cultivated image. Do I think that as a whole the Marine Corps is tougher than the Army? Easily, but that doesn't mean that Army is a bunch of soft womenfolk. Some of my best friends are Army, and I've met plenty of soldiers whoa re tougher tham me individually.

Just be glad you can play your part and serve your country.
