The banner headline spread across the front page of Il Giornale, the respected Milan daily reads:

“Al Qaeda: We will destroy New York within 35 days. Threat on the Internet. Countdown begins.”

The threat was contained in a video clip featured on a web site associated with the fundamentalist terror group. It announced al Qaeda plans to destroy New York in a nuclear blast on February 2. Il Giornale claims the FBI blocked and removed the web site.

The video clip showed three possible scenarios: 1. A bomb or giant fireball from the skies that will cover the metropolis with a radioactive cloud. 2. A storm of radioactive clouds that will topple skyscrapers one by one, along with the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn Bridge. 3. An explosion on board a charter aircraft that will cause a radioactive cloud to spread over the city.

The video clip was accompanied by large, red-lettered Arabic captions saying: “If God wills it, the end of America is near.”

DEBKAfile’s counter-terrorism sources say they cannot verify the authorship or gauge the seriousness of the threat because the Internet site is no longer accessible. But the report appeared in a newspaper widely viewed as the flagship of Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Such reports - even if not authenticated - tend to contribute to the mounting sense of alarm generated by “Orange Alert” in America and other Western countries. It comes against the backdrop of appeals to New Year revelers to stay away from the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations in Times Square, Rome’s St. Peter’s Square, Moscow’s Red Square and London’s Trafalgar Square – or even Disney World and the Las Vegas Strip. All these sites are surrounded by heavy security.

Very scary to think about, but $20 says they don't go through with it.

Well certainly its not going to happen since they took down there website its obvious they are taking the threat seriously and there will be so much security around the area it will make you want to vomit. Hopefully this just a bunch of bull****. :|

they had to take the website down. Look at the thread on this site. Its scared the hell out of almost everyone. Now imagine if all of america saw the movie.

And how many times have they threatened the US after 9/11? Did they ever go forward with thier plans.

But they know whenever they do something like that, the US will spend millions of dollars on police to patrol the streets. And americans aren't used to seeing armed soldeirs in airports and what not. So its more a of a psychological thing I guess.

Agree, it's why it's called terrorism.

This was posted about not to long ago. it featured scenes from the movie "independence day".

I think that the chances of Al Queda acquiring a working tactical nuclear weapon, and employing it properly are very slim, especially in NYC, where NEST teams are working undercover all the time to seek out radiation.

I think the more credible but less destructive threat comes from a radiological device.

I think they won't take this one too seriously but others probably from chatter must have indicated a dirty bomb. Because homeland security deployed specialist decontamination teams to New York, Washington & Los Angeles among others.

The thing about it though, they threaten to do it Feb 2, but then actually do it Feb 1. THe day that everyone is preparing. Thats at least what I think.

What about 3. February? That day everybody will write it off as another hoax and relax.

I don´t like the way all this things are managed. Any official source shouldn´t warn people of this things, they don´t have to talk, they must work and shut the mouth. Talking about nuke bombs an such in N.York is stupid, I don´t mean it´s impossible, I mean the only fact newyorkers feel threatened is just a victory for terrorists. The first weapon of the terrorists of any class is publicity.

Come on down mate, you can catch a pint with me.
Its not that bad at all. Im used to all the security measures now. It doesnt really change your daily routine unless you work in a government building.
