THEY are beautiful, innocent . . . and missing.
One is Christian, the other Muslim. And neither has been seen since bombers brought carnage to London two days ago.
Yesterday the families of Laura Webb, 29, and 20-year-old Shahara Islam were united in fear and panic as they desperately sought news of their loved ones.
The indiscriminate rush-hour bombings left 49 confirmed dead — with fears 20 more may have perished.
Dozens of friends and relatives were last night searching for missing loved ones, praying they were alive.
In scenes reminiscent of those after New York’s 9/11 atrocity, many toured hospitals and makeshift morgues for information.
Posters appealing for help were put up on walls and lampposts at the sites of Thursday’s four al-Qaeda bombings.
Searchers clutched snaps of their loved ones even stopping strangers to beg for assistance.
Secretary Laura vanished after leaving Islington for her Paddington office.
She would have boarded a Tube at King’s Cross at about the time when a blast erupted there, killing 21 people.
Brother David, 38, told how she waved goodbye to boyfriend Chris Driver, saying: “See you this evening” — but never came home.
David and Chris, 28, went from hospital to hospital yesterday in a bid to trace her, while her parents Hazel and George waited in vain by the phone.
Teacher David said: “We are all battered by this. Every scenario’s been through our minds.
“We’re going through hell, but the hope is keeping us going.”
Bank worker Shahara has not been seen since taking a District Line train towards her North London office on Thursday.
She is believed to have changed at Liverpool Street. Seven died at nearby Aldgate.
Shahara’s uncle Nazmul Hasan has been leading the search for her, because parents Shamsul and Ramena are too distraught.
Nazmul, 25, said: “I got a missed call from her about an hour after the incident — so I’m hoping she’s somewhere. I can see the agony this has caused.”
Shahara, of Bangladeshi origin, lives with her parents, brother Anharul Mohammed, 17, and 13-year-old sister Tasmeen in Plaistow, East London.
Last night the family branded the bombers “despicable”.
Mum Ramena said: “We need to know where Shahara is, that she’s OK".
