No they are wearing a mix of issue vests, chest rigs and Arktis kit. Web-tex is a cheap copy of issue kit and is absolute gash. It falls a part easily and isn't IRR. Best just to wait until you get issued the stuff.

As for telling the difference between a soldier and marine ....... kit wise these days theres not much difference apart from insignia and the green beret! :)

They use different slang things like forced marches and a slightly different steely look in the eye! :lol:

Modern weapons should never have been alowed in any army, then the tactics wouldn't have changed and they'd still be wearing red coats and carrying the Brown Bess musket. I must say, they looked better back in the day. :D

One of the pics is of a young marine in what looks like Africa (Sierra Leone). He has a red backing behind his RM beret badge... is that a poppy? I thought recruits wore red backing on their badge (with a black beret?) before becoming commando qualified.. but his guy is wearing the green beret, and I remember putting the poppy for armistice day as a backing to the beret badge. Didn;t know they did it in ops though. Also, in a different picture, note one of the guys is camo-ing his face while the other wears bright blue para wings on his sleeve... here I am!!! : ) Wrt telling the Army from RM, the Recon Bn (I forget the actual name) also carries an M-16 variant doesn't it, not normally carried by anyone in the Army other than possibly SAS... (one of the pics shows it), right? Great pics!! woot

Army personell who've done the All Arms Commando Course and are attached to 3CDO have a black square with red dagger, Royal Marines in 3CDO have a green square with a black dagger.

I'm sketchy on that though.

Guys from my regiment just got back from training with Royal Marines (arty), they were impressed with the way they run things over there.

One of our Senior Bombers (like 30 years) came back wearing a Royal Marine uniform (I guess he traded it) with a pretty kick ass t-shirt. On the front it said, "God is airborne" on the back it said "but he failed the commando course"

The square dagger patch is the DZ flash for 3 Cdo Bde - only those serving with the Brigade (should) wear it. There are a good many Marines both units and individuals serving outside the Brigade.

Nice to see British and Dutch marines working together.

There is an UK/NL landing force for QRF operations in Europe. The UK and NL Marines work together a lot. Both have the same structure and more or less the same guys.

The Dutch SBS is part of the British SBS during war. They form the 7th SBS. The Dutch Marines can also go throught the (british) mountain-leader training.

So in many ways the Dutch Marine Corps it the same as the UK Marine Corps.

If you would like to try for selection to join one of the best figthing units in the World, you'll need to do a lot of work on your attitude. Learn to be The Grey Man and not to stand out, you come across as just a bit too opinionated and immature. Learn a bit of respect and humility young man and you might stand a better chance of being invited to attend recruit selection. You have to earn a place on Royal Marine training - you need to improve your chances.

SBS do not wear Commando flashes or wings (as per the rest of DSF). Their only uniform peculiarities are their beret badges and stable belts.

They do wear Commando flashes, black on green sabre wings etc. on CS95 uniform when serving outside of Poole.
