Rather than doing what they should do as a respectable company, they furthermore continues to upset the crowd, by adding more gaseline to the "forest fire". Their tactic of using copyright legitimacy in attempt to sabotage the massive outcry is very... well foolish, especially in the age of electronics where copyright does not really exist anymore amongst the on-line communities. I wonder what made them to act this way. Are they trying to perserve some ground over the advertisement protest or they are on a self-destructive mode? This is very disappointing.
The entire letter is rubbish. What would legal action accomplish in this matter? Would it change people's minds of the fact of what they have done?
Ridiculous. It just gets more depraved.
Shame on ziff davis and all who work there.

What about their company janitors?
Those poor fellows...
I pity them...
In a more serious tone,
The letter is in some way reflecting the company's business's doctrine and its enthics. The poor display of the reason suggested behind the letter is dirty and unethical. I am dreaming of this outage of matter continue to broaden, and the discussion does not limit in the on-line communities. Eventually, Ziff Davis Media Inc. will lose control. Maybe this dream will soon become the "crude" reality. I am wishing the day to come very soon.
Anybody know what happened to gunsnet.net? Did Ziff David scare the service provider into shutting them down?

Well
After this letter I sent to miss Tara
Hello,
My name is Roman Stepanov,
I was the original guy who scaned the photo from your insulting ad, and
posted this on AK-47.net.
I don't understand how this is being illegal since I am not making
money, or
selling your stuff anywhere. It was posted for people to see the image
that
you disrespectfully changed.
As being Russian, and having connections in Russian Internal Affairs,
Government and Military I found it very offensive. The appropriate
E-mail
was sent to your publishers, editors and etc.
But there was no reply of any kind.
Your image that was obtained from Gety images specifically said that
there
was a memorial ceremony for the dead soldiers.
We are in the process of contacting ***** images about legality, since
in
the caption under the photo says
"Images may be licensed for use in editorial publications, where the
image
directly relates to editorial content and does not libel, derame or
invade
privacy. You must contact us to discuss promotional, advertising,
merchandising or commericial uses."
I'm in very good relationships and have family memmbers in Russian
Government and military. I'm in the middle of negotiating and contacting
parents of the dead soldiers displayed on photos. I'm also contacting
all
Russian authorities in FSB, MVD and Ministery of Defence.
Ak-47.net has nothing to do with this. I uploaded the photo, and
displayed
on their website.
Roman Stepanov
and after they wanted to sue me, this is what I got back just now
Dear Mr. Stepanov:
Please see below. Once again, I personally apologize.

At the moment my company is in the process of contacting the editors of
ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY. We apologize if the photo has offended the
Veteran community, we did not mean any disrespect. A more in depth
apology will be sent out but I quickly wanted to let you know that we
are sorry for any offense this has caused.
Respectfully,

****. They messed up big time. Im curious to know if they would do the same with US fallen troops? HHMMM I don't think so, Im also curious how the families of American dead troops in Iraq would feel if their sons portraits got twisted and misused in sick and cruel means. Just sick. Has there been a formal appology yet?
Also Im in rezidence and I don't have Tv if this makes the news or in a local paper or whatever media coverage this gets keep me posted (curious to see how this will end up for company)

Jeez. What a bunch of dip****s at that magazine.
I WOULD boycott Ziff Davis Magazines (PC Gamer, ECG, etc), but I already stopped buying them 2 years ago when their content started to suck nuts.

Look, one of the only ways the average joe (i.e. guys like us that hang out on these forums) to really make an impact towards Ziff Davis is not to purchase their publications. If you dont already thats cool but if you do and dont agree with what they did or are doing and want to make a difference, just dont buy their magazines anymore. The Silent Protest, not going around saying F*#! ZD anywhere and everywhere on the net. Just a thought.

Im not sure whats most disgusting. That Tara bitches stupidty, the original photoshopping that caused the mess, or their threatening legal action over property that doesnt even belong to them.
Disgusting. ****, US forces in Iraq even treat dead Iraqi insurgents with dignity, politics aside, the dead for the most part are dead, and they should be burried and remembered ina dignified fashion. Not subject of lame ads.
...
I'm getting speechless here.
Some people are in some serious need of a 'visit'.

So Ziff Davis Media is sueing who? how and why?

01-09-2004, 11:42 PM
I reckon they were going to sue gunsnet because people posted the gross image there... But it was pointed out that they infact stole the image from ***** Images, so they cant sue. Now the bitch wrote back and apologized, apparently after getting bombarded with a huge international petition and thousands of e-mails from Veterans groups, military and computer forums, active duty soldiers and Russian citizens.
Good for them.

I want to thank you all tonight.
Brothers and sisters - THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME FIGHTING TILL THE END. We will not let those motherless f.cks disrespect our dead. WE WILL NOT !! Who ever you are!
Remember that ***** images sells photos as business. I doubt they stole the image, but rather licensed it.

There is only one way to handle this appropriately! Militaryphotos.net members must engage in a Gangs of New York style melee against the members of the offending forum!
I know who knotch 45's gonna be...that dude who uses Hello Kitty as his avatar!

Welcome to the world of Stock Photography. ***** Images supplies stock images to anyone who'll pay to use it. Most of the time, the graphic designer, in this case for a gaming magazine, can care less what the background of the image is and is more concerned with creating a "cool" image promoting the game for the article. I doubt the graphic designer was out to disrespect anyone.
Still in bad taste.
It's getting bigger and bigger; this morning I saw one of the (if not the) biggest Dutch gamesites ripping on them for it...those guys are gonna get in a world of hurt for it woot

Besides it being racist, u have absolutely no reason to believe the tara is jewish. You are just employing a pretty bad stereotype.

I remember a similar incident a few years ago in motorcycle magazines. Cobra aftermarket exhausts had an avertisement showing a collapsed highway, and underneath it said something like "Now that's what I call loud." Turns out the photo was from the 1989 California earthquake, and hundreds of people had died when that highway collapsed. The company got hit HARD by the PR backlash, and eventually came around crawling and begging for mercy. I hope the same happens to these f---s.
