I believe this operation was called Artemis, by the French, not sure though.

Great pics! I'm kind of suprised to see the EU flag flying in the French camp (or is that the Franco-Belgian contingent HQ?)

Hellfish, I think it was a European mission, but Belgians and Frenchies were in the same sector or something. I have no idea actually :P

I think Artemis was the first Euro military operation ... it wasn't all that big (5000 strong with 4000 frenchies?), but a good place to start woot

or Concordia was first, I dunno

edit: Pandur

EU military operations:

Concordia (Macedonia) - April-June 2003
Artemis (DR Congo) - June-September 2003
Proxima (Macedonia) - EU police mission - ongoing
Althea (Bosnia) - ongoing
There were other EU missions, but they don't really have a military/police component.

Belgium contributed the following during Artemis:

• 23-member medical detachment from EMI1 (Eléments Médicaux d’Intervention), EMI2, EMI22, HCB RA (Hôpital Centrale de la Base – Reine Astrid) (Composante Médicale)
• Pandur medical vehicles
• 2 C-130 Hercules (tactical transport)
• Airbus A-310 (strategic transport)
