AMSTERDAM - Three radical imams have been ordered to leave the Netherlands after the country抯 intelligence service said they represented a security threat, the Justice Ministry said on Thursday.


The clerics from Eindhoven抯 Al Fourkaan mosque are the first to face expulsion after the Dutch government vowed to crack down on militants following the murder last November of a filmmaker critical of Islam.

The AIVD intelligence service said the men worked to radicalise Muslims and turn them away from Western values and tolerated the use of their mosques as recruiting grounds for militancy.

揟he AIVD has come to the conclusion that the imams willingly and knowingly contributed to the radicalisation of Muslims in the Netherlands and were also responsible for the creation of a breeding ground for a Jihad,?the ministry said.

It added one of the imams had already left the Netherlands -- home to 1 million Muslims who are mostly of Turkish or Moroccan descent -- and that if the other two did not leave they would be expelled.

The country has about 16 million residents.

Following the murder of filmmaker Theo van Gogh, the Dutch parliament demanded a ban on residence permits for foreign imams from 2008 while the government has been working on schemes to train more moderate Dutch-speaking Muslim preachers.

I'm not sure, if they actually did break the law. Beeing a hate preacher is very difficult to prove. Much of what they say could be protected by freedom of religion/expression. I think it is much easier to revoke their permit of residence than to pass a sentence.

I am very happy to see this development throughout the world, I also heard today that the same thing will shortly be taking place in the UK. I sincerely hope that out gov't, the US, will soon also start to expel any muslim cleric/imamm, or practicioner of that religon which preaches hatred of Western values and viloence against westerners. I mean if they hate us so much and preach that in these countries, than why are they here? It cant be for any reason except to recruit and insight militancy and therefore, they need to be removed, by force if necessary in my opinion.

France started to expell extremist clerics long ago.
But they do all they can to stay and may even prefer to stay in prison. Because we work with the Arab counties, notably Marocco and Algeria and those clerics are generally wellcomed properly back home. So no need to punish them in Europe, sending them back is the worst we can do for them.

And for every problem is a corresponding answer: so if these guys misbehave and we can actally (and legally) kick him out then that should be done.And it's true, political parties like the SGP and other Dutch-born asses should be punished severly. I'm a 'allochtoon' myself living here and I know that a lot of my fellow immigrants wouldn't mind these things to happen. They would like the government to punish these punks much harder and stop with talking but instant action. Why should the majority of good decent people suffer under the street punks and Wahabbi-imams??
