Review
The story of spying, bribery and secret deals done by the Americans with Saddam's senior commanders to betray their former boss, and the story of what happened to the feared Republican Guard. And exclusive interviews with the secret go-between for Saddam and the White House, and an ex-bodyguard who describes how Saddam escaped from Baghdad.

Might be watching that methinks. Just thought i'd let the other Brits know.

lol i'm sure it'll be the usually cut and paste of old images from the war but in a new order with the latest "expert" telling us what they think. Anyway if its any good i'll post up the gist of what they said.

Please give us the details. Especially how Saddam escaped after the bombings on night one.

I read a special feature on this in my newspaper at work today, and like an idiot I left there for the next shift rather than bring it home. The report was written by one of Saddam's former bodyguards. From what I can remember, the bottom line was that Saddam's secret police chief was working for the CIA. Saddam summoned a meeting of all his senior officers. The secret police chief had warned his colleagues not to attend the meeting. Saddam was suspicious when only three senior officers turned up for the meeting, and the building was evacuated. As Saddam was being driven away in a civilian vehicle, the building was hit.

The report stated that after this incident the Secret Police chief disappeared and hasn't been heard from to this day.

The report also featured his other escape stories. When the statue of Saddam was toppled, Saddam himself was only four miles away rallying the local population. On other occasions, Saddam was hiding in a mosque when a column of Abrams rolled past engaged in a firefight. Saddam was driven around northern Baghdad in a red Volkswagon, sleeping rough in the car and in safehouses, before heading north to Tikrit.

Saddam kept just one loyal bodyguard with him most of the time. The report's author knew the bodyguard well. He stated that he knew the end was close when he saw Saddam on some of his spontaneous appearances after Baghdad fell. He said he only had to read the loyal bodyguard's increasingly worried and depressed face to know that it would soon be over.

that was a f*cking class program! Showed all the tanks, planes and artillery that iraq would have used to pound the Coalition if it hadn't been for good ol' bribery. They even had challenger tanks and decent artillery. They explained the disapearing republican guard and the half-truths the US military gave the press.

It also had stuff about the whereabouts of Saddam during the campaign and how narrowly his missed being bombed and bumping into abrams. It also brought to light the guys in saddams inner circle the weren't in the deck of cards, such as the head of iraqi intelligence and on of saddams cousins, showing that they were cooperating with the US. plus loads of footage of 3ID going into baghdad past where saddam was hiding and stuff like that. I hope you guys get to see it.

They also said the Iraqi Air Force Commanders made a deal with the Intelligence Agencies and thats why there were no Air ops against the Coalition.

was very good espically when you had read the Int sums on tellic filled in a few holes.
Would love to know how much the Iraqis knew about us in the run up to us going north.
Big respect to that former president of Lebanon for trying to sort something out and being a go between.

Very interesting program, especially how close Saddam was to the US Forces in Baghdad. Some really good footage as well which I hadn't seen, and it didn't seem to be dumbed down (maybe that’s why it was on quite late) like some other programs on the conflict. :)

... They even had challenger tanks...
Very much doubt they were Challengers, more than likely Chieftains or their variants (Shir 1 etc) captured from Iran during the war in the '80s. :D

That programme was great, I like the way that it revealed the way that most arabs can be bought and sold like cattle. Did you notice the pic of the fat guy in the background of one of the still photos of Saddam, referred to as Saddam's cousin who is married to Saddam's sister!! Inter-breeding or what? The same guy was a member of his inner circle, and he betrayed him to the US. Loyalty counts for nothing obviously.
The frontline commanders just left their troops to die in the face of airstrikes too.

Btw, the CNN footage of those trucks and cars being shot to peices was nuts...
