View Full Version : Are secret talks the way to go these days?

It seems like government's accomplish more in diplomatic ways when they do secret talks than they do when they are out in the open. The Libyan renouncing of WMD, Syrian-Israeli talks, the arrests of high ranking Baath officals and others are example of when it worked to not put all your cards out there. Also, by not announcing the talks, no one can be disappointed if they fail. How many Palestinian-Israeli talks has there been in the past decades? Hell, even local corporations do this with the supermarket strikes going on in California, as the AP Wire just said that "secret talks being held with striking parties." The out in the open talks are only for politicans to get their stock to go up IF it works. People should just let their governments, whomever they are, to work out deals in the dark, and NOT tell us what is going on every little step of the way. We have the right to privacy here (please no ashcroft/patriot act comments just yet) so why shouldn't the government have it as well? Should the citizens have a say in all matters of the government in terms of, for example, What is in area 51 or why can't you tell us how you got so-in-so's information and by what means? Ok yeah, opsec for one, but there is **** we don't need to know about, and sometimes we need to be secret about it. Secret talks carry with it that conotation of being all devious and dirty in someway just because there isn't a couple of guys going a cabin at camp david or the stupid smiley handshakes outside of a big white building. I know i'm ranting here, so let me finish it up with this, secret talks work and not everything has to be so damn transparent no matter if it deals with a secret base in Nevada, a intel report detailing sources, or back channel talks between two governments. The media and other extreme elements of society everywhere need to simply deal with it and not be so critical about not being told about whats going on...its best that you dont know everything that is going on in your governments.

You would be suprised to really know how dangerous and offensive in nature "negotiating" can be.

Look at the link. If you read between the lines you will see what I'm talking about.

@Nizark:

Congratulations Nizark, I think any decent dictator out there would wish for citizens with your attitude. "Just give the government some privacy". "Just live, we take care of the rest".

But rest assured, Nizark. There is pretty much out there we do not know of. There are secret talks, hidden agandas, secret operations, the works. The CIA is conducting Special Operations in more than 50 countries at a time...what do you know about it? Next to nothing. The NSA has a budget and a number of employees htat are far exceeding the CIAs...what do you know about them? Next to nothing. And thats your own country...what do you know of the actions of foreign secret services...probably right outside your door? Next to nothing.

How much of the important things that really happen can we see on TV, read about in newspapers? 95%? Or 5%? How much of it is true, how much is disinformation?
My answer...I have no clue. And probably I never will. If we are lucky, things are basically as they seem.
If we are not so lucky...some of this:
http://free.freespeech.org/americanstateterrorism/9-11/Operation911.html
http://free.freespeech.org/americanstateterrorism/9-11/911MossadCIAffr.html
http://free.freespeech.org/americanstateterrorism/9-11/911MossadFalseFlagOp.html
is the truth.
And if we are downright unlucky, this is not even the whole truth.

How can we know? We can't. There is no way to tell. In the end it is a matter of belief...one man's realism is another man's paranoia.

But what we need to make our mind up is information. As much as we can get. There is no need to voluntarily dispense with information. At least not if you want to live in a free society that stays free.

If the CIA or NSA needs privacy and secrecy to keep its people safe so they can keep the public safe, then that should get all the secrecy they need.

Why would YOU keep a secret from sombody?
If you knew it would hurt them or REALLY piss them off...

It's that easy really... :)

Also, id be concerned if the CIA WASNT being secret and conducting operations around the world. THAT IS THE WHOLE DAMN PURPOSE OF THE ORGANIZATIOn.

Funny how after 9-11 the dems and libs and commies and ****faces all bitched that the CIA failed to do its job, and now when they do get tough and put boots in the sand and kick a little ass, the same bunch of bastards complain.

I say FEK em.
