London mayor stands up for terror

Ken Livingstone tells reporters, 'Palestinians don't have jets and bombs; they only have their bodies to use as weapons'

LONDON - London's mayor Ken Livingstone delivered a press conference Monday in which he justified Palestinian terrorism against Israelis, saying, “The Palestinians don’t have jets and bombs, they only have their bodies to use as weapons."

Livingstone also compared Hamas to the ruling Likud party and layed into Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who has defense minister managed Israel's 1982 invasion of Lebanon to destroy PLO bases there.

“I don't expect to agree with them, whether it is a suicide bomber or an Israeli Minister of Defense who authorized an illegal invasion of a neighboring state,” the mayor of London said.

Addressing the possible visit of Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, who has justified suicide terrorism against Israelis and has been previously hosted by the London mayor, Livingstone defended the Muslim Brotherhood cleric.

Livingstone told journalists that the cleric condemned suicide bombings “in the strongest possible terms, except in the Middle East, and we can’t have a double standard on this.”


On the Six-Day War, illegal nukes

During the conference, a journalist asked Livingstone whether supporting Qaradawi who “has been invited to this country 30 times,” and who “endorses suicide bombings in the Middle East,” is “putting out the kind of message we should put out to young Muslims who the government is trying to engage?”

Livingstone replied by saying that the negative press attention given to the Islamist cleric was a product of “Islamophobia,” before continuing to criticize Israel.

“I believe the taking of a human life is wrong,” said the mayor, “in particular when you think of the invasion of Lebanon, the illegal invasion of Egypt and Jordan in the Six-Day War, all these exercises of going into Palestinian refugee camps and destroying homes simply because a bomber came from that area.”

Livingstone seemed to belittle alleged violations of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty by Muslim countries. He lamented the “the sanctions on Iran, the bombing of Iraq’s nuclear reactor,” adding “we all know that Israel has stockpiled 200 nuclear weapons.”

Israel has not signed the NPT.


Palestinian refugees an 'Islamic wound'

Livingstone said the “dispossession of the Palestinians” was an “Islamic wound.”

He added that the ongoing American and British campaign against the Taliban and al-Qaeda in Afghanistan as well as the effort to build a democratic government in Iraq have not quelled Muslim anger.

He concluded his press conference by saying that “what’s important is to not alienate Muslims opinion any further.”

IMO, we should not cooporate with the Brits in defence issues as long as this guy is the mayor of their capital city.

Also, since I did not mention banning anyone for having a different opinion, you must be clairvoyant and know something the rest of us don't know. But since you raised the issue of banning, I think the site would be a better place without a few of the current members. That's not my call, and like I told you in another thread, it's pretty easy to ignore assholes-- and you can count yourself in that category-- until they get out of control and start turning the forum into a bulletin board for extremist views-- be they left wing or right wing.
