If and when they finally slug it out, how are the different Chinese supposed to ID each other? They have similar pattern helmets and BDU's and personal kit, speak the same language, and OMFG they look alike.

The nearest comparison would be Marines in woodland MARPAT vs. Canadian Army infantry.

Hard to tell, especially in a mean firefight.

The title is not far from the truth. Many weapons and vehicles from Taiwanese army have "China Army" painted on them. Some people think the nationalism is high in China nowadays. Think about this, for most part of the last fifty years, Taiwan was ruled by "Chinese Nationalist Party". Among mainland military fans, we still refer to Taiwanese army as "army of the nation", for once they were the official army of China and the communist army was merely "rebel force". "The army of the nation" today only recognizes "one China" which including the mainland China, Mongolia (now a country), and Taiwan. The defense minister of ROC pledges the army's allegiance to defend ROC against any attempts to seperate Taiwan from China. He said he would refuse to serve the country, if it goes independent from China and becomes "Republic of Taiwan". Most generals in Taiwan are anti-independence. If the president ever declares independence, he actually needs to watch his back first. :-D

I'd love to stick with the military theme, but just to keep my opinion holistic...

If you want to talk about reality versus hullucination, it is you not me who still live in denial. The word "China" and "Chinese" have existed loooooong before the existence of the People's Republic of China or ROC and these labels will outlast any forms of government they may have on this piece of land. To force political meaning onto "China" and "Chinese" and say they can only associate with certain regime or time period is simply ignorant.

Taiwanese, Chinese, Hongkongese, we are all people of one, brothers and sisters. Given enougn time to know each other like what we have here in the US, we all find ourselves not much different from one another. It's the political labeling that's hurting the peace and harmony in today's world. To artificially label yourself as "Taiwanese" and "I'm Chinese" is exactly what leads to conflicts between people in countries like Rwanda (Hutu vs. Tusi).

Life is short. Peace!

The OP: I think you should probably have specified Taiwan or ROC in the thread title to avoid confusion.

Jin: Yes, the thread says China and is confusing, but that doesn't mean you have to hijack the thread with pictures from (the other) China. See now we're ALL fuxored up.

Chinese, TWese, Croatian, Serb, etc nimrods should all put their money where their mouth is, go back home, and join their respective armies. That way you can settle your differences like men and not a bunch of internet crybabies polluting the Strictly Photos forum with their stupidity.

In the mean time can we stick with the OP and go with Taiwanes pictures?
I for one am interested in the Taiwanese rifles, are they the Type 68? Is the Type 68 the first gas piston AR-15 derivative to be used by a major army?

WTF are you talking about? I'm a Taiwanese American. how did anything i say indicate i'm working with the commies? I never said ALL the citizens of Taiwan are living in denial, just the KMD and other 'old school' mainlanders who still claim they control China, which is a rediculous notion. I'm a realist and just saying it as it is.

willyang, I don't buy your claim that ethnicity trenscends nationality. There are other factors like culture and language that determines one's identity. Just because the French and English are technically the same race, doesnt make them one and the same! Sorry if i'm contributing to this political highjacking, but judging from the title you guys know its a disaster in the making.

I'm not surprised that you bring up the ethnicity vs. nationality as this is one of Taiwan seperatists' favorite lines. Although that's not what I meant, here is one way to clear your smoke. If culture and language determines one's identity as you adovocate, people in Taiwan are 100% Chinese because they speak Fukin (which is a Chinese dialect) and the immigrants who migrated from mainland China hundreds years ago brought the Fujian culture along with them and maintained it till today. It's funny to see how seperatists claim they are a "new rising RACE" to seperate themselves from the mainland. People who "invented" Taiwanese Race obviously skipped the classes of Anthropology and biology when they were in college. Or...are these seperatists doing this intentionally so they can divide the people in Taiwan as "Taiwanese" and 'Chinese" just like those hideous politicians setting up conflict between the majority Hutu and the minority Tusi. This is no exaggeration. Ever since the seperatists came to power in TW, many families, friends, neighbors, and colleague in TW who used to be friends are now enemies because the seperatists told them "native Taiwanese have been oppressed by immigrants from China since 1949, therefore they are bad people and traitors of TW". That, to me, is as malicious as one do against humanity and world peace.

I never claim Taiwanese as a "NEW RACE". Just a new IDENTITY. Using your arguement Americans should really call themselves British because they speak English and their ancestors came over from there. If you know anything about the history of the human race you'll know that cultures evolve and nations form and dissolve. Borders change all the time, nothing is ever permanent. And i'm not surprised you use the "Oh no the Taiwanese are causing trouble and breaking up the country" to justify your Chinese arguement. You Chinese are so brainwashed into thinking that Taiwan is the one starting trouble. Open your damn eyes, the whole growing Taiwanese independence movement is a REACTION to the actions of mainland China. China has treated Taiwan with nothing but pure ill will and complete disrespect. How do you expect us to react? Are you Chinese so clueless? Its like you are pointing a knife at your ex-wife and wondering why she is trying to get away. First of all, I didn't say "you" claim, I said "Taiwan seperatists",...never mind. :-D

I didn't know Taiwanese and mainlanders are as different as French and English. LoL

True, the history suggests nations dissolve, borders change. The history also told us such a forceful seperation also involves major conflicts and bloodshed. What if Hawaiian insists on seperating Hawaii from the mainland US? You think President Bush is gonna be a push over on such an issue?

As a Taiwanese, you should know that the majority of Taiwanese prefer status quo over any dramatic change. You should also aware that they are Chinese. That's why the Chinese Nationalist Party along with the rest anti-seperatism alliance hold the majority seats in the congress. All surveys conducted in the past also indicate seperatism has never been favored by the majority of Taiwanese. Come back to me when you have the consent of the majority of Taiwanese people that they agree with the seperatists' point of view to give up the peace and prosperity for this so-called new IDENTITY.

If independece is that easy, LDH or Ah Bien would already have declared independence of Taiwan. Seperatists, wake up and smell the coffee!

I don't need any further discussion with you because I don't need to argue over lies.
