View Full Version : Karl Rove's Cooper alibi hidden from the Feds

White House deputy chief of staff Karl Rove did not disclose that he had ever discussed CIA officer Valerie Plame with Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper during Rove’s first interview with the FBI, according to legal sources with firsthand knowledge of the matter.

The omission by Rove created doubt for federal investigators, almost from the inception of their criminal probe into who leaked Plame's name to columnist Robert Novak, as to whether Rove was withholding crucial information from them, and perhaps even misleading or lying to them, the sources said.

Smells like obstruction from here.

Here is a nice ass chewing:

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL BOARD

President Bush likes to talk about high standards, accountability and personal responsibility. While Bush expects students, school systems and future retirees to toe the line, his friends get an easier deal.

Consider White House political strategist Karl Rove, now implicated in off-the-record discussions that preceded the exposure of a CIA officer's identity. Viewed in the best light, Rove was engaged in leaking information about national security for the political purpose of making the president's sales pitch for the Iraqi invasion appear to have been honest. Whether Rove did anything illegal, he did exactly what the White House repeatedly said he had never done. Rove offered the media information about Valerie Plame's role at the CIA after her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, criticized the administration's attempts to connect Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction. And Rove's conduct met the standard for removal from his post that the president laid down in 2004 when he promised to fire anyone involved in the leak.

Now that Rove's involvement in leaking information has been confirmed, the president has decided to modify that pledge. Bush let it be known on Monday that he would fire any staffer who "committed a crime."

Schoolchildren, take note. There will still be high standards for you, your teachers and your schools. But at the White House, the rule is a little different: No pal left behind. Unless, of course, he is an out-and-out criminal. That's quite a standard.

To me this is really serious! How do americans in general view it? Do they care? Will Rove be punished or will he go on with business as usual?

This Rove may have played a part in this persons name being leaked however equal blame must also be placed upon the reporter who decided to publish the name of the agent as well.

that would be robert novak. thus far, he has refused to talk about why he is still free and what he told the prosecutor.

given that he's still free, odds are that novak squealed to avoid a jail sentence and further prosecution.

the prosecutor seems to have moved on to bigger fish.

Perhaps you should "Moveon" from this story as it did not turn out as you expected.

Plamegate special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald had told top White House advisor Karl Rove that he's not a target of his investigation into who leaked the identity of CIA analyst Valerie Plame to columnist Robert Novak.

And Fitzgerald has also asked the top Bush aide not to discuss the case in public.

Speaking to National Review Online's Byron York late Tuesday, Rove attorney Robert Luskin said Fitzgerald "has told Rove he is not a 'target' of the investigation" - despite media reports suggesting otherwise.

This is the twist. Rove, Libby, Rice, Hadley, and Dick Cheney. My guess is Fitzgerald is going after a lunker not a smallfry.

I think my fellow Americans are not all that surprised.

If you have ever heard any of Roves speeches he literally hates liberals and anyone associated with them. Fellow republicans kind of wince and hold their breath when he attends an engagement.

The guy is a miserable human being who is filled with hate and disdain for the democratic party.

Try and find some of his speeches, they are mind boggling and really just preach hatred all around.

The man accomplishes nothing but leaving the people who attend his speeches with an ass backwards view on the democratic party and hate in their hearts. Its no wonder we are so divided with leadership like this.

Rove will not be punished. They will find him a loop hole and he will jump through it.

Just so you know im affiliated with neither party, I vote for the best man regardless of party. So im not on some kind of mission, I just see a guy doing nothing good and a person who has played a huge part in dividing our country. The democrats have them as well, but they are not as blatant, however are plastered all over the news when they open their mouths.

You see the majority of the American public doesn't go to the republican dinners that cost a thousand dollars a plate. They don't get to hear the speeches unless they seek them out over the internet.

I would recommend finding those speeches on an unbiased site and reading them.

Nothing will happen. Just look at the US vice-president who has still Haliburton stock-options and obviously it's not a problem!

Really, like when he said that the liberal response to 9/11 was criminal proscecution, not war? Is that "preaching hate". How is it hate if its the truth? I'm sorry, we should be more sensitive, and not bring up issues that might make someone upset or emotional.

http://a-sdf.blogspot.com/2004/09/truth-about-haliburton.html

The Remaining Stock Options Have Been Donated To Charity. Cheney sold most of his Halliburton stock before taking office in 2001. “[T]he vice president arranged to donate the eventual profits from exercising the remaining $7.8 million in stock options he holds, primarily from Halliburton, in the following percentages: 40% to the University of Wyoming, his alma mater; 40% to the George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, which benefits the cardiac unit where he has been treated; and 20% to Capital Partners for Education, a foundation that provides scholarships to low-income, high-school-aged children in the Washington.” (Craig T. Ferris, “2000 Tax Returns: Bush Has No Tax-Exempt Holdings, But Cheney Has $2 Million,” The Bond Buyer, 4/17/01; Scott Lindlaw, “Bush, Cheney Earnings Documented,” The Associated Press, 4/14/01)

I cant understand why this sotry, particularly Roves involvement (actually his NON-INVOLVEMENT) is still even a story. He didnt do anything illegal nor even wrong and the left wing kook liberals cant seem to get past it. They are just making it more and mroe obvious each day that tehy are morons and idiots and that they could care less about a leak, its a personal attack on their part which has nothing to do with right or wrong, legal or illegal...

ya, sorry, your statement only makes sense if it is an investigation of Rove. Being a witness called in an investigation does not make you a criminal. But, then, I suppose its the laid out talking points and casting calls for the administration, that are not to be varied from, no matter what reality presents

Rove: criminal, manipulator, would kill children to gain political points.
Cheney: Profit motive, starts wars to make money for himself.
Bush: Idiot.

I suppose anyone can add to the list if they'd like.
