(Talon News) -- Earlier this week, the Bush-Cheney '04 reelection campaign released their fundraising information for year ending 2003.

Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign Manager Ken Mehlman said that $130 million was raised in 2003 through 494,000 total contributors, including 400,000 grassroots contributors were making their first contribution to President Bush.

"The president continues to build the largest grassroots campaign in America with half a million contributors from every state and county in the country," Mehlman said.

The fourth quarter of 2003 saw Bush-Cheney '04 raise $47 million from 288,000 contributors, including 232,000 new donors.

"The growing enthusiasm for the president's reelection is demonstrated by the nearly 400,000 contributors who did not donate in 2000, including 232,000 new contributors in the fourth quarter alone," Mehlman said.

The campaign website has posted all donors who have contributed one dollar or more to Bush-Cheney '04 through December 30, 2003.

The website also lists volunteer fundraisers who have reached what the campaign refers to as Maverick, Pioneer, and Ranger statuses.

I find the American party fund system to be prohibiting democracy as the party who spends the most money usually ends up winning, so both parties go scrounging for cash, and the big businesses/lobbying groups are there to hand that cash, at a condition of course ie 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours'.
I think that both parties should have a solid cap at $100,000,000 or something and let the party with the best policies win rather than the one with the most cash, just my '2 cents'.
