It's still better they were caught... Poor GI Joe or Mohammed wouldn't have to clean up the bodies.

Uhh... not to sound like a broken record, but all the stories said they were caught and one treated for wounds.

Looking at those they did aim for the heart which is somewhat redeeming considering the distance...
The gun was exactly what i thought it was going to be.

He was shot in his ceramic Chest Plate, not Helmet.
If he had been shot in the Helmet he wouldnt be alive.

Actually there is the possibility that he could of survived if hit in the helmet. Soldiers have been hit in the helmet by Ak rounds and have survived.

Was he hit by an AK? The rifle in the photo looks like a dragunov(?) or an NDM- 86. If so does the Dragunov fire the same round as an AK?

if yall think about it if that soldier wouldn't have turned towards them then he would have been hit in the side which could have killed him or wounded him cause if im correct although not too sure but our body armor is only front and back right?...not the sides...so when watching that video he turns at the last second then bam they shoot and he was hit in the chest..........either way hes very lucky and i hope they did kill these snipers or at least capture them...

7.62x54R
not to derail the thread but...
I understand the 7.62mm part but not the 54r part, is this the number of grains in the bullet? Way back when I was handed the C7 for the first time I only understood (or was only taught, after all I was a radop) the 5.56 NATO part. What would be the second # for ball ammo for an M16/C7 by way of example?

R = rimmed 54 mm = case in length

UPDATE: Letter from the Soldier that was hit to Point Blank body armor.
First let me say thank you for saving my life!! I am forever grateful!!!! My name is PFC Stephen Tschiderer, and I am currently deployed to Bagdhad, Iraq. Yesterday, July 2, 2005, I was on patrol and while proving security around my Humvee, I was shot by a sniper. This sniper was useing a Draganov sniper rifle with AP rounds. The round struck me at an angle and did not come through the SAPI plate. Enclosed are some pics of the plate and what the round did to me, which thanks to you guys is only a small mark. My family and everyone that knows me sends our thanks and keep up the GREAT work.
THANK YOU AGAIN!!!

Chances of him being able to survive a 7.62x54r in the helmet are rather slim, I don't know of a single case. 7.62x39 is much smaller and that is what the ak fires but he wasn't hit with an ak :(
