Once again we have run in to rediculous red tape when trying to deal with her majesties government in England.

A while ago my wife came home and told me that she got flashed by a speeding camera. So we thought nothing of it, thinking wrongly that a speeding ticket here in England would be the same as getting one at home in New Zealand.

Eventually the speeding ticket turns up and my wife does the dutiful thing and says she was the driver, signs the forms and then sends them off to her majesties speeding ticket people.

A month later we get another letter in the post this time with the speeding ticket addressed to her. However she had to complete and return another form (that was in the letter) saying she was the driver and that she would be paying for the ticket.

She posts her letter and then about a month after that we get another letter saying how much the fine was and where to send the money to. So I sign a cheque, wife completes the paper work and then sends it off to the speed ticket people.

Then on Thursday wifey gets a final demand in the post saying that if she doesnt pay within 28 days of the notice (notice issued on the 1st of July) that she would get a summons. included with the notice was the cheque we had written as we had not included our paper licence when we sent it all in!!!!!!

So wife rings speed ticket people and asks them why she cant use her photo licence and where she can get a paper licence from. Speed ticket people say that its just the system, you have to send in your paper licence along with payment by the close off date or she will get a summons!

For f*cks sake...all we want to do is pay the god damned fine! If we cant use her photo licence whats the f*cking point of having such a licence in general circulation?????

Wife rang DVLA to get replcaement paper licence (neither of us can ever remember receiving a paper licence last year when we got our photo licences)...can you believe it...a replacement can be provided but that takes around 8 weeks!!!!!!

God...no wonder the British no longer rule the world!

I really am sorry, and I dont want to sound malicious, but the idiocy of it all is brilliant. Pure red tape logic, and so not funny that one can only laugh about it.

Best thing is to write them a ****ty letter or ask to speak to a supervisor/manager.

I had a problem with council tax a few months ago from when I was a student in 2002. Everyone I called wouldn't help me sort it. In fact one guy said "there's nothing you can do, the bailiffs have been sent out."

I sent them a letter about how I didn't have to pay the tax (for three different reasons!!) and saying how I would complain to the Mayor and MP.

The next day I got a phone call from one of the bosses, I explained the situation and she looked up the relevant paperwork which proved that I wasn't liable.

Conclusion: complain....
