I don't think it ever will ;)

Personally I think it is great idea (at least for Russia): it teaches kids discipline (reduces chances of juvenile problems, drugs and growing up as a wimp), it prepares for the military service and gives some basic knowledge fouundation and the most importanly - IT IS FUN, kids love it! :) I don't know about kids in Italy and Canada but russian kids love to play "war", I guess it is just a different mentality.
Russia has NVP (military training in schools) and Canada has airsoft, Russia has tanks and Canada has Strykers.... joke :D

We have something some what similiar here in America, called JROTC. Although they really do not do that much militarilly speaking, but they do learn some useful things. I'm sure it is nothing like the Russian program.

We've seen other regimes where this type of crap became obliged too, HitlerJugend anyone ....

Giving children miltary lessons is criminal if you ask me, just give them some more sports orso.

I think that in countries where military service is mandatory it is necessary to expose people who are in high school to the military so that they won't get a "shock" once they are in uniform.

Although I understand that comment and in a sense agree I dont want my kids to be exposed in such a way, teach them peace and educate to help others. I want my kids to get into Marine rescue like me. Still teaches discipline and teamwork and use of equipment but not for purpose of war.

Well, it did work for germans in terms of soldiers quality ;)

More sports means less academics, just look how it benefited US...
Besides certain sports, especially at yound age, can do you more harm than good and leave you crippled for life.

Hitler Jugend produced disciplined, brain washed, physically and mentally fit individuals which later could be turned into excellent soldiers. They were skilled and followed orders, what else do you want from a soldier?

Which sports are they?

"Although I understand that comment and in a sense agree I dont want my kids to be exposed in such a way, teach them peace and educate to help others. I want my kids to get into Marine rescue like me. Still teaches discipline and teamwork and use of equipment but not for purpose of war."

The purpose of the training they receive is to prepare them to defend their country if that was needed. I see nothing wrong with that. Learning how to handle and to repect firearms is certainly a good idea. Most of the kids killed by guns are killed because they treat them like toys. After military training I doubt they would point a gun and pretend to shoot them... even in fun.

Ya good point.

Talk to a 30 or 40 year old that was in cadets, and compare it to now, its totally different.

Now its all politically correct. Can't do hard physical stuff because the girls and "equal rights", can't yell at anybody, can't use guns in drill. Hell, in Air Cadets you couldnt even wear fatigues on bush weekends because it was "too military".

What the f*ck? Might as well join girl scouts.

I'm not talking here about voluntary training for young people, but a compulsory training included in their education as for the mathematics...

You probably know the diffference between voluntary and compulsory, right?

My mom had to go to NVP in 10th grade, she had an asshole instructor who gave her a B and ruined her average :(

Dmitri

There is nothing like that in normal schools. In schools you might get some education about gas mask, shoot some high power bb guns, and just a little bit about how to defend from nuclear or biological attacks.

Plus its not like they will be running around crying: "Train to kill, Kill we will". Most americans are exposed to the guns very early, which I think is extremely stupid also. Thats how you get all those shootings in high schools. There is no such thing as privately owned guns in Russia.
By the way, for those of you that didn't understand crap about this vidoe, this is one of just a handful VOLUNTEER CADET schools. It said a lot of these cadets later become officers in Spetsnaz and VDV. ****, I wish I could there. As a matter of a fact there is one in Moscow, and I wanted to go there, but it was incredibly hard to find a slot there.

Well, I think mandatory military service for adults is a good idea. It instills positive characteristics in a short space of time that would greatly benefit society as a whole. At the same time it gives everyone an understanding of the nature of a professional soldiers job. I think if the average aperson spent several weeks sat in a muddy hole with **** food they would think twice about letting their governments send the armed forces to fight expensive wasteful wars for no reason...should they ever decide to start doing that... ;) .

For kids, I dont see anything wrong with trying to instill these characteristics at an early age. There is no reason why children can't be trained in this way, without using a military environment. By encouraging physical health and education, most children would be healthier and realise that they were capable of pushing their percieved boundaries further in terms of endurance and effort. This understanding would be beneficial to all aspects of life and if coupled with a greater sense of their role in society (ie teamwork, through adventurous pursuits in school) and of their responsibilities, this would enable the future generations to achieve far more than ours, or our predecessors.

I think it depends how far your going to take the military training. I dont think there is anything wrong with getting kids to spent time outside doing team related activities and a bit of physical work. Theres nothing wrong with instilling some pride into people. If people all share something in common they are less likely to act in a negative manner towards each other. Teaching people about firearms is a different matter though, to an extent you could teach people about safety aspects and what not but i can't say i'd be leaping over the moon knowing that everyone was growing up with a respectable knowledge of how to operate a firearm.

Anyways thats my 2 pennies(soon will be 2 Euros if Tony gets his way  )

Ironically I wish it would happen. I'd have signed myself right up and plus it would keep all the kids in great shape without getting fat. Everyone in highschool has fired a gun off at some point, so my as well get the good training and be able to play with the big boys toys.

And what's next? Babies will be borned with a weapon in hands so that it becomes innate?

Ah , American menthality ... No offence , you all nice guy and all , love you very much . Russians just have very different mentality then Americans .
It's also kinda nice to have it . Millitary is obligattory in Russia , so it's a good way to prevent "millitary shock" . I remember i waited long time to get this one ... but i get out of Russia before i had the chance .

We don't need a military training for young guys here in America. You know why? We havent had a battle on our ground in over 200 years...

What about Israel for example. You keep fighting your neighbours since Israel was created...

We have one week "example" millitary preparation during highscool , called "Gadna" , or youth battalions , but it isn't even remotly close to what Russians do . I remember they comming once to my company , we did them some tank stunts , they said "that's boring , let's get out of here" , and left ... That's actually is a problem , sence the army is obligatory , and many people comming inside , and having so called "millitary shock" , the transsition from civil life to millitary life . Many not feeling comfortable with this , and ... many are using they democratic right of freedom of speach to bitch about it .

Caesar

I'm not sure if you guys understand: that school in the video is one of probably half a dozen in the whole country, a voluntary special military school, no one else gets training even remotely close to this one. In normal schools, they don't teach you to shoot, throw granedes or do battle drill, all you get is the very basic survival skills like using gas mask etc., which is usefull anyway. So cut all that baby with a gun crap out

Well everyone I know and have been around has fired off some sort of gun at some point. From .22's to shotguns. Caesar scared to play with "boomsticks"? Or are you still in the pellet gun stage of life?

Besides a program like the one suggested should teach kids how to stay n shape and be a great learning experience. Sure its not for everyone so it shouldnt be madatory but for those willing to try this should be the way to go.
