Wearing her Islamic veil, Iranian pro-reform lawmaker, Elaheh Koulaei, right, who has been disqualified from seeking re-election by hard-line Guardian Council, holds her number to get permission to speak, as Fatemeh Khatami sits at left, during an open session of parliament in Tehran, Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004. Iran's reformist government has threatened to resign amid denunciations Tuesday of hard-liners for disqualifying candidates for next month's parliament elections who are allied with the reformist president. The Guardian Council, an unelected hard-line constitutional watchdog, has barred over 3,000 of the 8,200 people including more than 80 sitting lawmakers who filed papers to run for a seat in the 290-member parliament. Lawmakers have said all of those disqualified were reformists. (AP Photo/Vahid Salemi)

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that this soldier is an American advisor to an Iraqi unit. He maybe wearing Iraqi camo so that he doesn't stand out as much from the rest of the soldiers. Although the RACK and the M4 with a PEQ2 do stand out some.

What is that, an MG3 without the heat shield?
http://www.hok.dk/foto/albums/userpics/normal_019.jpg
You mean the "holes" besides the barrel??? If yes: there are just at the left side these "holes"!!!! The reason is: if you want to change the barrel you get it out at the right side-you need space for that-that's why there are no "holes" or the head shield at the right side.
(You can see the open handle at the pic right beside the soldier's left hand.)Of course, the carried ammunition is not 7,62mm and won't fit to the gun!!!Which is the MG 3 ammo.
Hope I could help :petting:

Soldiers of the Royal Canadian Dragoons Battle Group in the village of Vrhpolje, Bosnia, search for illegal weapons and munitions January 5, 2004. Here, Sergeant Pat Eglinton (left), and Corporal Tim Morris, Field Engineers with 23 Field Squadron do last minute preparations to blow out window hinges of an abandoned home that is suspected to be ****y-trapped, to gain access inside. Operations like these are done in cooperation with the local police, in villages often suggested by the police themselves. The troops go door to door asking if the occupants have anything they'd like to get rid of - and then they ask if the occupant would mind if the troops search the home. Most Bosnians have become used to this and understand that ridding the country of illegal munitions makes everyone safer. As members of NATO's Stabilization Force, the Canadians can forcibly enter abandoned buildings and they often do - the only requirement is to ensure that the building is left locked and secure when they leave. Nearly 1200 Canadians are serving on Op Palladium until March, 2004, when the last Canadian Battle Group to serve in the Balkans will be replaced by a reinforced squadron.

Well actually, the camo was reversible. One side was greenish and all that, best for jungles, while the other side was tan/brown colors, as many of the islands were more barren than others.

ERDL and ERDL-like patterns also showed up in Vietnam to a limited extent. The camo patterns used by ARVN Rangers and Nung Mercs look a lot like that, and there seems to be some relation between ERDL and the new Aussie pattern (visually, if they aren't actually developmentally related).
