Just wondering

I was in my History Class today and we all looked at a Map of the world in the early 1900's.... Saudi Arabia was known simply as Arabia, Iran was known as Persia, and Turkey and some other Arabic countries where known as the Ottomon Empire. Why most of the Countries in the Middle East change there names? What's the main reason?
