I just read in a gun magazine article that US Homeland Security Standard Handgun is the HK UPSC and the P2000. But isn't lasts year Glock magazine claim that GLOCK is the Standard issue in US Customs & Border Protection ? (2004 GLOCK) Can someone please tell me if both guns were issued by Homeland Secruity?

the HK info is correct. the DHS awarded them a contract for the purchase of up to 65,000 pistols in the next 5 years (this was a year ago).

a very similar contract was signed with SIGARMS for the P229.

H&K pistols are for ICE, SIG pistols for CBP, Coast Guard and other agencies within DHS.

All pistols procured under these contracts pass through a 100% inspection process at the DHS/ICE facility in Altoona, PA before being issued to officers and agents.

I was just shooting with the SIG Fed LEO rep and he relayed that CBP went with the H&K (& not too many of their folks were excited about that). ICE, US Coast Guard and other agencies in DHS went with SIG procurring 65,000 units of P226DAK & P229DAK in .40 S&W and 9mm. The US Secret Service (also part of DHS) has a contract for the SIG P229 in .357 SIG, but it is a separate contract. The Postal Service (US Postal Police, Postal Inspection Service, Postal Inspector General) also just signed on with SIG for the P229DAK in .40 S&W.

I'm in contact with the boys in Altoona, and I know for a fact that the ICE agents I talk to carry Compacts and P2000s. I guess it is possible that there is some interagency swapping.

Not happy about being issued the USP?

Hell, I don't know about you guys, but I'd be plenty happy if I was issued a weapon as nice as the HK or SIG as opposed to a Glock, or worse a Beretta 92 series....

There are 3 LEA, if you will, within the US Postal Service:
Postal Police: an uniformed armed security force responsible for securing postal facilities and escort of valuable items sent via mail.

Postal Inspection Service: one of the oldest Federal law enforcement agencies. Postal Inspectors investigate a number of crimes where there is a nexus to the Postal Service: mail/wire fraud, mail theft, identity theft, robberies/burglaries of post facilities, carriers, vehicles, bombings through mail, narcotics trafficking through the mail, kiddie **** through the mail, etc.

Postal Inspector General Office: responsible for the investigations of waste, fraud, & abuse against the Postal Service, in addition they perform internal investigations against high ranking postal officials.

Postmen over here are Federal employees, allot different to Postman Pat.
I'm not sure on this, but if you acost or threaten a Postman, you've just commited a Federal crime?

Last I heard was that CBP was getting the HKs and ICE was getting the 229R DAK. I heard that the CITP folks for ICE are already being issued the 229s down at FLETC.

One_A: The folks you know at ICE maybe carrying something different right now. I remember several of the legacy Customs folks I knew carrying Glocks. The SIG rep said the contract had been signed, but I did not ask about delivery dates. As for CBP and the H&K, a lead firearms instructor with them brought one of their new H&K P2000s to the range. He hated the trigger, and shot it to compare it to the P229R DAK. Again I don't know what the implementation dates of the new guns are.
