I remember when.
Michael Jackson was black.
Cigs were 35c/pack
Soda was a dime
Candy bars didn't taste like wax
Gasoline was 27c/gallon
Cadillac was a luxury car, BMW was a little foreign piece of ****.
Children were quiet in restaurants.
Made in USA meant quality, Made in Japan meant cheap imitation
Teens graduated high school able to read
Most of the girls had a neck and a waist -- obese people were much rarer
Most American flags were made in the USA
Cars had bumpers that were made of metal and were covered with chrome
The only SUVs were the GMC Suburban and IH Travelall -- and the only people who owned them did so because they were necessary, not fashionable. People who actually needed large station wagons owned those instead.
The auto manufacturers actually made large station wagons.
The waitresses on airliners were pretty and they were called stewardesses
People dressed up just to go on a flight
You could walk into a federal building by just showing your ID and signing a book
When you went into a gas station, an attendant would wash your windows, check your oil, fill your tank w/o being asked -- and for the same price as anyone else
All of the kids went out trick-or-treating on Halloween, everybody in the neighborhood had something for the children and it was perfectly safe.
Everybody in the neighborhood put up X-mas decorations, even my cranky old Dad.
US Route 1 was lit up with real neon, from Maine to the Fla Keys. Even the gas stations flickered in the night: Esso, Gulf, Phillips 66, Atlantic.
All soda pop bottles required an opener and were made of thick glass. Cans had pop-tops or needed an opener to make the two triangle-shaped holes to pour/drink from.
Most of the restaurants were not chain-franchises.
Most of the cars had whitewall tires
You got your hair cut at a Barber Shop with a Barber Pole. At the end, you were trimmed with hot shaving cream and a straight razor.

Sgt. Rock comics costed 25 cents.
Stretch Armstrong.
Unlocked guns in the house wasn't a big deal.
Milk came in cardboard cartons or glass bottles and actually tasted like milk, not white-colored water.

I remember watching the 1972 Munich Olympics and hearing the announcer talk about Palestinian guerrillas and wondering how large monkeys found their way West Germany.
Watching former US prisoners of war returning from Vietnam and meeting their families at the airport.
Riots in Baltimore when MLK was assassinated. I remember Jeeps with M2's mounted patrolling down my street. Needless to say, as a child I was pretty impressed.
When HBO was only on after 5:00 during the week.
I feel pretty old sometimes... :(

Smurfs, Transformers & other marketing cartoons didn't exist. Instead they showed old Warner Bros cartoons on TV and the especially violent ones were not left out.
No sitcoms on the air ever dealt with anyone's ****** problems.
The only jewelry women wore above their necks was in their earlobes.
The only time men wore jewelry above their necks was when they were in a pirate costume -- and it was only ONE in the LEFT ear.
If people had any weird ****** fetishes, you couldn't tell by how they acted and/or dressed in public.
You wouldn't be caught dead in a Toyota, Honda or Subaru -- and they were called DATSUNs. And you wouldn't be caught dead in one of those either.
Anytime you tuned the radio to a popular station, the songs had MELODIES, the singers actually SANG and you could UNDERSTAND THE FREAKIN' WORDS.

Little known factoid.......early popular game cartridge "Breakout" was designed by Steve Wozniak of future Apple fame. Steve Jobs, also of Apple fame, sold the game to Atari for $5000. Jobs went back to Wozniak saying he sold the game for $700 and gave Wozniak his $350 "half", keeping $4650 for himself. What a selfish d!ck. I love telling that story to disciples of Jobs.

Speaking of sodas, getting your "Suicide" after the little league game on Saturdays...oh those were the days...I wanna be a kid again.
My daughter likes the Suicide after her soccer games. My son hasn't picked up on it yet. I am now coaching the kids of the guys I played ball with when I was younger. Man, how time flies.
vivi from final fantasy 9 looks like orko from he-man so when playing final fantasy 9 i always changed vivi's name to orko.

Somebody posted a nice old bike pic a page or so back..
Looks like Triumph remembers the old days pretty well. This is a new model.

I am selling everything I own until I have enough to buy one of these. Including the kids. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I can get good money for them, they're good workers. My dad had a nearly identical bike when I was a kid, except I suspect his leaked a lot more oil...
