Hmm yeah, so what ? Have you already forgotten the 9 servicemen killed in an attack by these planes, Gbagbo's planes ? piloted by ukrainians, I agree but he's still the one who's paid for them and their crew and it's quite likely that he's the one behind the "mistake" that cost the life of 9 of our countrymen ...

Before bombing french troops "by mistake" these planes were regularly used in raids against the rebels.
What I implied with my answer is that these planes had repeatedly bombed rebels while only being able to attack our troops once before being "disabled" by our special forces.

I would be interested to know where you have read that "Chirac want to keep him in Power" ? it's just your personal opinion, you really want an answer?

Btw, don't forget that France have a "pact" of security with many old colony in Africa who protect them if needed.

Dont want to crap on your experiance but it looks an awful lot like a FAL handguard to me. Possibly a 50.63 with the shortened barrel and folding stock(cant be seen)

Actually on second look, at the length compared to his arm and the position of the Charging handle im thinking it IS a Sig

Look at the debries all over the road.

To me the VBL was overturned by the angry mob. The isolated crew safely retreated until bigger forces with ERC and VABs moved on.

Or maybe it was a road accident (roll over)?

The question in my mind is how in the hell would a ragtag militia of African rebels come into possession of a hind?

And even assuming they did, how in the hell would they maintain it?

And even assuming they had both of those covered, how in the hell would they get acess to the required training to crew it?

how the hell can they afford it (and the logistical chain that comes with it) war diamonds?
like investors in some lucrative deal (be it diamonds or something else) pick up the bills?

The rebels/militia do not have any air force.

The Hind, Hip and the Frogfoot belonged to the official Ivory Coast Air Force.

Most of them -if all- were destroyed with gun and missiles on the ground by the French after the bombing of their RPIMA troops in Bouake.

A total losses for the choppers and -voluntary- heavy damaged for the Su-25.

The planes and choppers were bought second hands and manned by Russian and Ukranian mercenaries, with Ivory Coast military observers on board each aircraft.

Ivory coast is (was) a rich country by West African's standards and could afford that kind of aircraft.

About on e hudred Israelies from PMC also deployed UAVs on behalf of the Ivory coast Armed Forces. It is said one of this UAV was used for recon over Bouake a few hours before the bombing thus not an "accident" as claimed by the Ivory Coast Gov.

If the Su-25 wished to inflict casualties to french they could have used it's RBK (CM bombs) not unguided rockets.

I can't imagine the ****storm this would have triggered ... after that, not only the Ivorian airforce but also most of the army assets would have been wiped out...

From Today's Photos - Monday, April 4th, 2011 thread

Given the developments in Côte d'Ivoire, and in particular in Abidjan, France decided last night to reinforce the French military force Licorne.

For several days, the Licorne force patrols densified in Area 4 of the city, home to many foreigners and French threats of looting conducted by rogue groups.

Since March 31, more than 1,650 citizens, which over half are foreign nationals, were welcomed at a French military camp of Port-Bouet, where life is organized for these nationals, many of whom are waiting to join family and home.

Moreover, on the night of April 2 to 3, two companies and command elements were thrown into Abidjan from pre-positioned forces by military transport aircraft Transall C160 and C130 Hercules.

At the same time, the Licorne force has taken control of the airport Houphët Felix Boigny International Airport in Abidjan.

The impartial forces, UNOCI and Licorne, provide security and air traffic control of the airport which should allow back military and civilian flights.
The Licorne force now has about 1500 soldiers. She had already been reinforced for the first time in late January with the grounding of an operational reserve board, established by the BPC Tonnerre who was taking part in Operation highbush in the Gulf of Guinea.
