I'm sorry pal but I wouldn't watch it.MTV is doing it for the CA$H,not the soldiers. If I was his commander,I would never let MTV or VH1 within ten feet of him.

Hey its either you wanna see 101st infantry soldiers in interceptor armor and molleii vests doing grenade training, target shooting, room clearing, NBC training, watching THEIR LIVES AS SOLDIERS(showed them shopping for stuff before shipping out, partying, last minute preperations etc.) or you DONT wanna see it... Im going to record it next time I see it and let me tell u this... IT KICKS @$$!!
**Update** Who cares about "theyre in for the money" discovery and history channel shows some good military stuff and they sell the dvds of it theyre in for the money too... hell, CNN makes money do they not? LMAO

I dont care who does it for who. What matters is that I GET TO SEE SOLDIERS IN ACTION. And how would you know their intentions? Hell they did it mainly to educate the american people(espeically the kids who watch mtv) on what soldiers are doing and how much theyre like everyone else and how much young people could relate to them

Who cares?I care!Just the reason they're using our service men as a way to make money is sick dude.I mean,C'mon.About all that MTV is good at doing is reallity TV,music videos, and Jackass(HAHA!Funny show). If you want to see what it's really like why don't you just go through training yurself.OH MY GOD!
I'm turning into my Dad.Wait! How'smy hair?

You dont know their real intentions.. Like i said above "they did it mainly to educate the american people(espeically the kids who watch mtv) on what soldiers are doing and how much theyre like everyone else and how much young people could relate to them" and although money is involved its a double edged sword, its a win-win situation for both parties if you will
If you want to see what it's really like why don't you just go through training yurself
Or I could watch documentaries, create them, or consult ex/current military

MtV has gone too hell over the past 5 years. Its all New York and Rap BS.Who the hell wants to watch that crap.

Actually,if I wanted to see real soldiers,I would turn it ot Fox News. They were the only ones to cover the airport capture,Saddam's palace capture, the Bio lab on wheels capture. And trust me,the only reason they are showing this is for ratings. When Carso voiced his views on the War on Terror, ratings slumped. So,they're showing this to try and get back some of the money they lost.

No I havent, and thats not what matters in this conversation. What matters is the legitimacy of what MTV is showing on TV
MtV has gone too hell over the past 5 years. Its all New York and Rap BS Who the hell wants to watch that crap
Did you know rap is mainstream/primary and rock is secondary? Its not MTV that has gone to hell, its the people that has gone to hell. MTV shows us what we want to see... And most of us like RAP(which sucks) They also have this "all things rock" show to even out with that other top10 rap show
the only reason they are showing this is for ratings. When Carso voiced his views on the War on Terror, ratings slumped. So,they're showing this to try and get back some of the money they lost
That has nothing to do with the quality of the show. Im not talking why they made it. Im talking about how cool the show is. You say MTV makes money off of that show. Doesnt discovery make money? Doesnt CNN make money? Doesnt history channel make money? Doesnt foxnews make money? Doesnt every BUSINESS make money? Regardless of more or less money being made money is being made REGARDLESS! Haha.. So watch the show and enjoy

Ok Adam all I got to say if you gotta watch MTV to learn and see about the War Military ETC then I really dont think your mature enough to be joing the army and going on to be a Ranger or SF . You just might make it as a Leg but I have my doubts :bash: As for the Rap music Whats that got to do with the soliders???
GearGod
04-12-2003, 07:15 PM
if you gotta watch MTV to learn and see about the War
Thats a big if. I primarily watch/read CNN/FOX/Newspaper to "learn and see" about the war. MTV however I go to look for entertainment, and happened to see that show on and other shows like "MTV Diary: Gidieon in Kuwait" which showed him going to see the US soldiers in kuwait and going around the city etc. some good stuff
I really dont think your mature enough to be joing the army and going on to be a Ranger or SF
Really, my first statement made your second invalid. Secondly, your second part of your second statement is invalid too. Im not going to join the army
As for the Rap music Whats that got to do with the soliders???
Merik did say "MtV has gone too hell over the past 5 years. Its all New York and Rap BS.Who the hell wants to watch that crap" I wouldnt want to insult him by NOT responding to his message now would I?
Adam, the point people are trying to make is that MTV is simply, as you have said, entertainment and other TV stations, such as Fox and CNN, center on real journalism. Mature people can discriminate between reporting the news and over the top consumerism.

yeah, MTV has gone to complete steaming crap, I remember back in 89 when it was all videos by good rock groups one after another after another, but then again, back in 89 i had a bowl hair cut and wore neon clothes....oh well......and by the way, If ya wathed CNN throughout the entire military operations, you would have seen paratroopers making jumps, explosions, night maneuvers, and plenty of other cool footage, I mean this was the first "Live" war if you may.

Im fully aware of that. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that when you goto MTV you see spring break female body exposure corruption and when you goto CNN you see W-A-R
What MTV's "True Life" is about is that it shows the "life" of a person in an interesting life sitaution; In this case, its the lives of multiple 101st soldiers pre-Iraq. The reason I posted it is to tell military enthusiasts such as myself that hey, theres some 101st soldier action on mtv and it kicks @$$
I think what matters in his original statement, is that they show off some neat weaponry and other things. Maybe they'll put some of those rap stars downrange. In a Tivo world where you can zoom through shows and just see what you want, I can't see how it would really matter what network has it on. Remember, most of these people out in Iraq are 18 and 19. They're definitely within the MTV generation demographic.

ARGH double reply yes hood i see where your comeing from and i agree but most of us here are not 18 or 19 yrs old
jesus i think u guys are making a big deal out of it. i saw it on friday and thought it portrayed the more humane side to the soldiers than the action, which i think is more important than any MOUT training scene because these are men and women who have lives outside of the military (ie: the guy whose baby might have needed surgery while he was in Iraq). Of course, it also showed some partying (it's like an MTV trademark :) ), and the training that went on. Interesting how they showed the guys going to PT, then no scenes of actual PT (i saw a warm up and they just started running before they cut it off), and then they show them comming home from PT. Hardly tells the entire side of military life so i think the episode is a little misleading...

Yes I agree its getting to be abit stupid but if someone is gonna post something in a discussion then everyone is allowed there opinion and we stated ours and and since we did'nt say YEAH MTV Rocks we get a big arguement well I tell ya thats one of my stronger points (Ask my husband he will vouch for me)

The only problem I have is that fact that 2 individuals wouldnt watch the show just because MTV produced it. Your missing a great opportunity right there to check out 101st soldiers

Well Adam that is our choice not to watch it if we choose to

I watched it, and it's really pretty damn stupid. It's just showing men taking care of their babies and some skimpy footage of MOUT combat or something that you could see anywhere on the internet (or, hell, maybe the NEWS).
I mean, if the show is called "REAL LIFE," it must be really real, right? Or hell, you could turn on CNN or FNC or MSNBC to watch REAL LIVE WAR if you want to see all that amazing gear, or even go outside and ride a bike!

Besides why are you acting like this is personal?I will say though that the Gideion thing in Kuwait was interseting since I happened to see it one day at a friends house.
It did show what life is like for a teenager in Kuwait which I have never seen before.Thats one plus that I have given MTV.
I Tivo'ed it and watched it last night. I thought it was pretty good, although I found it a little surprising how lax the whole atmosphere was. I assume it's because these guys are far out of basic training where things are more strict. Unfortunately MTV kept slapping the viewer with tidbits before and after the commercials with sound bites from people who are so painfully ignorant about everything that it really hurt. Luckily it didn't last that long.

Adambalbetchet, why do you care so much about their stupid gear? I thought you cared about the soldiers.
I guess the soldiers are just uneducated piles of crap if they are'nt wearing XB 298739546742195 INTERCEPTOR GXP TWELVE THOUSAND vests.
Hooah p-)
I wear my XB 298739546742195 INTERCEPTOR GXP TWELVE THOUSAND vest to bed every night. I'm wearing it right actually...

According to Andy McNab, the XB 298739546742195 GXP TWELVE THOUSAND is crap. You need the XB 298739546742196 GXP TWELVE THOUSAND ONE. :D

Just because I mentioned gear doenst necessarily mean I dont care about the soldiers. Note that there would be no gear if there were no soldiers. I just found it interesting to see them in new MOLLEII gear; Last time I saw them on a CNN MOUT special they were wearing TLBV vests with no armor
As for the female body comments, I'll have to say this- Very humorous gentlemen
